here ya go, my favorites as of 9/19/04, 7:35 am EST, subject to change in about 10 minutes of course... ;)

bad taste - great lo-fi new zealand splatter and humor from that lord of the rings guy

dawn of the dead - classic, i'd say my favorite of all time, lots of zombies, humor, and a little social commentary on the mindlessness/dangers of consumerism and/or hubris

the shining - jack nicholson literally IS mad, the score is incredibly unsettling, and the movie is generally shot and acted beautifully

the beyond - lucio fulci's twisted tale of what can happen when one of his gates of hell is opened beneath a new orleans mansion. gore never looked so good

alien - damn, the chestbursting scene, the fact that you never get a good look at the creature, the sexual suspense.. a riveting and sometimes disturbing film

rosemary's baby - might've usurped omens and exorcist as my favorite 'devil' movie. well-told, well-acted, the ritual dream-scene is unfogettable ('THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!!') as is the final haunting act

tenebre - i think dario argento's best film, released as the slightly edited 'unsane' here in the u.s... often terribly acted but you've probably never seen a more refined slasher, amazing cinematography, violent kills, and set to terrific music

damien: omen 2 - the beast realizes just what he is, and begins to violently fulfill the requisite biblical prophecies (have you ever seen a better dismembering in an elevator before? a more frightening scene where the killer simply 'stares' the victim to death? *shudder*), very well acted with an AWESOME score, stays with you for years

the fly - david cronenberg's remake of the classic. very funny, very sick (get the director's cut), and very f*cking awesome! see it!

slaughterhouse - an ambling 300 lb. psycho muttering in pig-gibberish as he hacks his way through the local teens? a man fed feet-first into a meat auger you say? an ending which totally satisfies your horror-fan appetite, in the same way, uh, eating a 16-ounce porterhouse would? ahh yesssss

honorable mentions - these *might be* better movies but they don't warm (or should that be 'chill') my heart the same way my favorite ten does:

henry: portrait of a serial killer - incredibly realistic and frightening

maniac - off-kilter take on the serial killer theme, in a similar vein to henry but not as riveting

men behind the sun - awful movie really

I'll name some of my favorites nobody has mentioned yet.

Pet Sematary
Chopper Chicks in Zombietown
Return of the living dead
Sleepaway Camp II (seriously underrated slasher)
Poltergeist
Cemetary Man
Sixth Sense
Night of the living dead 1990 remake, I like it more than the original. If anyone wants to argue with me about it, go ahead.
Vampires
The Unholy

In some kind of order.
