Nightbreed

Only my 2nd viewing, but I love this movie. Why doesn't David Cronenberg act more often?

There's good reason he doesn't act more often; Cronenberg was lifeless as all sin in that flick!

Really?

I thought he made a fantastic villain...he was low-key and underplayed for sure - and he sure wont be winning any acting Oscars, this I realize - but I loved his character. Very menacing in a subtle kind of way.

You've got to admit his mask was pretty badass though, right? :p

Run Fatboy, Run

A cliche-filled rom-com/sports-com with cheap sit-com beats, gross-out gags, sappy crap and odd bits here and there. It is 100% predictable, but is saved by the perormances and the weird little bits of writing. Simon Pegg is simply charming. Thandie Newton is a stunner, Hank Azaria is a douchebag and Dylan Moran is awesome as the "kooky friend".

No where near great, but a fun little film.

6.9/10 (not quite a full 7)

Blindness (2008)

Perhaps the most under-appreciated film of the year, and it just opened last night. A majority of the reviews are scathingly negative, and with no real reason behind them.

The directing is superb; the camera work and cinematography are masterful. The soundtrack is simple, yet highly effective. The acting, while not entirely award-caliber, is very close to it. And the social relevance and messages backing this film? Incredible. Just incredible.

I loved every second of it. As disturbing, and disgusting, and vile, and rotten, and inhumane, and immoral, and every other adjective and word like these, as it is... I loved it.

I think the fact that it was so disturbing turned off a lot of critics. But that was the point.

It moved me.

I really do think it's a modern Salo: 120 Days of Sodom.

Los Tres Entierros de Melquiades Estrada

I could just write the English title, but for some reason I like it better in Spanish. Beautiful movie too.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Um...Nick? Norah? Yeah, I think your Juno is showing. Might want to get that looked at guys.

I didn't go into this expecting much, but my girlfriend wanted to see and and I thought it could be kind of cute - it isn't. The leads have zero chemistry, the humor relies pretty much solely on stale, running gags and the plot was just an absolute mess. It's like they had 2-3 different stories to tell and didn't know where to go with any f them...but shot the movie anyway.

Not a good movie in any way. It really, really wants to be Juno, but fails miserably.
