Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In)

Gorgeous. Touching. Well-crafted. A wonderful new way to tell the vampire story. Also very dark and macabre, especially the ending.

I thought that Lina Leandersson as Eli, the little vampiress was absolutely stunning, charming, and horrifying. Kåre Hedebrant as Oskar, her human friend was a bit of a slovenly rube who got on my nerves a bit, but who was ultimately charming.

There were some continuity issues that I'm not sure came from poor editing or got lost in translation, but all in all this was a good film. One of the things that really stuck out to me was its gritty, rough nature - It's not as easy to kill someone as you might think.

All in all, I recommend it.

...

Right At Your Door

Wow.

An incredibly intense look at panic and human drama in L.A. when a dirty bomb is dropped and one couple struggles to deal with the aftermath. Gritty, real, horrifying, and absolutely gripping. An intense study of the human will to survive coupled with instinct, panic, and confusion.

Brilliantly done, well-acted, and a fantastic script.

...

Sílení (Lunacy)

Jan Svankmajer, the same director who put together the absurd film Alice fathers an even more self-indulgent preachy piece of experimental European faux art tripe. Attempting to channel the Marquis de Sade and give the finger to organized religion and establishment, Lunacy instead comes off condescending and pretentious.

What a load of -

Saw V
-Movie of the year compared to what I was expecting. That doesn't make it good, just watchable. 5/10

Four Christmases
-Decent and funny enough. 6/10

Yes Man
-Carrey's best since... well, only good one since Eternal Sunshine. Fun with some good laughs throughout. 7/10

Mum and Dad
-Nothing new, but still pretty good n twisted. 7/10

The Wrestler
-I see this as I do Ray and The Queen. Good, very well done film, that doesn't quite hit the next level, though it does have that great performance that lifts it. 7.5/10

Frost/Nixon
-Starts casual and builds tension along the way to a great scene between the leads, that sets off the final 30 minutes or so, which is played perfectly and makes the film. The whole movie is well done, but that final act.. perfect. 8.5/10

Milk
-The story's already there, so it's a matter of how it's told and acted, which I thought was perfectly fine. And James Franco is becoming a favorite actor of mine. 8.5/10

Slumdog Millionaire - 9/10

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 9.5/10

"Corpse bride" 6/10

Didn't do a whole lot for me. A little sad at the end, but that was it.

The classical music score was beautiful tho.

Had a good concept to it but could have been better. Some good, disturbing scenes but overall it just fell flat in the end.

The Wrestler - raw, unrelenting, sad, depressing, amazing. Mickey Rourke was nothing short of perfect. Aronofsky is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. This movie's ending is of the most hard hitting I've ever seen.
