WEREWOLF films - where's the love??
Indie filmmaker here. I've done my share of horror, most recently a werewolf film, and I've done so because I'm not satisfied with where our werewolf buddy is nowadays in film!
Werewolf films just don't seem to get enough love or respect these days. Those of us who prefer classic werewolf horror films like WOLFMAN, AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, THE HOWLING (at least most of it!), DOG SOLDIERS, etc are saddened to see the tragic CGI wolves of today. Nowadays we've got the WOLFMAN remake and the UNDERWORLD films. Neither gave our furry friend the respect he deserves! Let's bring the master make-up artists and creature designers off the sidelines, eh! What are your thoughts? |

I agree! Next to vampires, werewolves are my favorite film subject!

CGI isn't the worst thing ever. Like everything else, there is a time and place for it. How did we so quickly lose control over it? When watching the WOLFMAN remake, I'm sitting there going "...What the HELL is going on? There's a talented filmmaking team behind this. Are they all on drugs are so numb to what's going on that they've given up?" The transformation scenes are just WOW bad.
Just a shame to see superb make-up, prosthetic, puppet, etc artists out of work or struggling because of this. Even worse, this is an art form that will perhaps eventually die out (or get close), leaving us with no option BUT to rely on nothing but CGI! Yikes. |
