The Tournament of Robots/Androids/Cyborgs/A.I.s
Our genre and it's sister genre (science-fiction) boast of many examples of this said category. As the two genres evolved, so did the sentient beings. Many examples can be found in all forms of media - films, television, radio shows, comics/manga, etc., so narrowing them down to just films could be unjustified. Also it's like committing a crime, since so many good examples from the Dr. Who series, Star Trek series, even my favorite K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider would miss out.
But maybe that could be the homework for another idea in the future. For now, I have stuck to the most popular ones in films. Narrowing them down into a tournament format was tough, but manageable. Hope I didn't miss out on any notable ones. First match up later in the day.
