The Hindu religion and society teaches us morals which has made most of us devout straight people, and pretty faithful husbands/wives.

That really says it there, eh?
It's an upbringing/conditioning thing, for not only faithfulness, marriage and monogamy to be considered moral, but also ?straightness? etc.
It's very ingrained, the whole stigma of gayness being wrong.
Not commenting if this is bad or good, just saying that it's not likely to change until a few moulds are broken.
Religion, not big on change. The more religion, the more conformity to the common theme.
Don't get me wrong V, I don't consider you (or Indians in general) anti-gay or anything, just making an observation really.

The sex has pretty much always been legal in most US states. It's the marriage that's slowly becoming legal.
