LOVED The Conjuring, Mama, Evil Dead '13

Saw "Frankenstein's Army" and it stunk, which pissed me off because the premise could have made a great movie
"Maniac" was awesomely creepy I'm so glad to find someone who watched it since the movie has more of a cult following. I even did a tribute review about it on my blog. As for the Conjuring that's also awesome love the jewelry box scene. It's like The Babadook and Oculus which have a similar theme of a haunted house movie that's actually scary. The recent Evil Dead was pretty good too, I was surprised by how much blood they used.

That's so strange that you mention Maniac 2012. I recently just posted a video review of the movie and I was looking for other people who also liked it as mush as I have.

It really does deserve to be talked about a lot more. It's very under appreciated.

The Den takes place entirely on a laptop, and it's about a woman who witnesses a murder on a chat roulette site. It goes off the deep end a little bit at the end, but it's still a really effective and memorable movie.

Absentia - This one is directed by Mike Flanagan, who directed Oculus, so if you liked that, you'll probably like Absentia. It's about a widow whose husband went missing 9 years ago, and he suddenly comes back, claiming that a monster in a nearby tunnel is responsible for his absence. Absentia is a good example of what's come to be known as "quiet horror", where not much really happens, but the dark themes make up most of the scares.
More people need to see these movies. At least Absentia got some attention since the director also did Oculus and Hush, but not a lot of people have seen The Den. I believe it's still streaming on Netflix. HIGHLY recommended.

Hey guys! Long time no see!

I'm not new to horror, BUT I am new to what isn't mainstream horror, so Halloween, Friday the 13th, Elm Street, Child's Play, etc. I'm familiar with, but I'm really hooked onto horror now and just finished 100 Feet and Amityville Haunting, the gormer was pretty good and I just loved the cheesiness of the latter haha!

I also just signed up for Horror Pack, so I'll be getting a horror grab bag each month, :)

On point though, I'm throwing a huge horror party this year and am stocking up on movies but aside from new releases and rereleases of the 'top 5' horror franchises it's pretty dry here, so I was wondering what everyone's top suggestion would be, your favorite flick, your most inspiring etc., lemme have 'em!

Welcome back! Glad your love of Horror has grown. It NEVER stops!

Suggestions? Gladly! My favorite movie is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974. If you haven't seen it yet, please do. It's unforgettable and is definitely a seminal work. Of course, it's a very popular film so you have probably seen it, but you did ask for a favorite.
Some horror flicks that I consider essential viewing that might not be on everyone's radar...
Attack The Block - Way underrated sci fi horror action!
Sexy Killer - Great Spanish Slasher with a wonderful female villain
Hands of the Ripper- My favorite film from Hammer Studios
Session 9 - Psychological horror done perfectly
Pin - A deep, serious and disturbing Canadian flick
Martin - George Romero's vampire tale is fairly well known but I don't think it gets the respect it deserves.

I hope you check out some of these titles and let us know what you think of them.
I could give you a few hundred more... lol, but it's a forum and I just don't wanna be THAT guy.

I actually haven't haha but I'm aware of it, I'll put that on the must view list!

And the more the merrier! The greater chance I'll find one of them haha!

I finally got hold of this guy on swap and picked up a large box of horror DVD's, in that box was (I think) a pretty good mix for someone looking to branch out a bit.

American Vampire
Arachnophobia
Audition
Blood Sisters of Lesbian Sin
Carrie ('76)
Child's Play
Choose Their Kill
Dark Fields
Dracula 2000
Drag Me To Hell
Flight of the Living Dead
Friday the 13th Part 3
Ginger Snaps
Hellraiser
I Spit On Your Grave
I Spit On Your Grave 2
Jennifer's Body
Land of the Dead
Night of the Living Dead
Poltergeist
Queen of the Damned
ReVamped
Savage Spirit
Sharknado
Sharknado 2: The Second One
Slaughter Daughter
Sleepwalkers
Suspiria
Texas Chainsaw (not the original)
The Cabin In the Woods
The Last House On the Left
The People Under the Stairs
The Ring
The Shining
The Uninvited
Zombie Hunter
Zombie Night
Zombie Strippers
30 Days of Night

I already own the Elm Street collection, all of Rob Zombie's films, Army of Darkness, The Evil Dead, and Chillerama, and figured this was a good addition! Not to mention the four Blu-Rays per month I'll be getting from Horror Pack, :)

You've got a lot already so I just wanted to suggest having Begotten on in the background at your party when not specifically watching films. Its mesmerizing and taxing at the same time.

some pretty good ones in that box you got, several of them I love. Sharknado doesn't count as horror I think, but they are some fun and goofy movies to watch. Part two was ten times better than the first, if not for story, just in all the cameos alone! part four even had some texas chainsaw massacre cameos, and a specific mention to the series, as well as Christine was in it too.
