Good remakes

Please don't type in capital letters at me if this has already been done. :P

Name some good remakes?

For me the ones that currently come to mind are:
Battlestar Galactica
13 Ghosts
12 Angry Men

Very rare for me to see a remake that I like. But there are a few:

Hills Have Eyes
Wolfman (I know it has its flaws, but call it a guilty pleasure I love it)

...that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

This is unfair for me. I love remakes. I love getting to see something in a new light. Its fun for me. I don't become to reliant on the details in original films that I cant understand change.

That said, Apocalypse in the new X-Men looks all wrong and it makes me angry. Lol.

I'm open minded about remakes, but I'm also often disappointed.

A few that I like, or even love;

Nosferatu (1979). Love both versions but the Herzog remake is one of the best horror films ever made. So is the original, so...I wouldn't want to choose which I enjoy more.

House of Wax (1953). A redux of Mystery of The Wax Museum (1933), Vincent Price steps into the Lionel Atwill role and fills his shoes admirably. I still prefer the original but, come on, it's Vincent Price! The cast also includes Fay Wray and Carolyn Jones. Need I say more, horror fans?

Carrie (2013). The original is a classic, and one of my favorites, but I was very impressed with the recent remake of Carrie. Chloe Grace Moretz has an amazing presence on screen and it was incredible to watch her work. I'm still amazed at how young she is. The thing I really liked about this remake was that the villainess, Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday) was sooooo evil. Nancy Allen played the part in the 1976 version, and yes we all hated her, but Doubleday plays her in such a way that I couldnt stand her from the moment she appeared onscreen. This made the conclusion to the film, and Chris's fate so much more delicious to watch.

So, that's a few off the top of my head.

I'm not picky about remakes at all. If I don't like a remake, it's probably because the movie was bad even on its own. That being said, here are some that I liked:

Carrie
The Last House on the Left
The Ring
The Grudge
The Hills Have Eyes
The Fly
The Thing
Evil Dead
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Crazies

And to a lesser extent

Poltergeist
Silent House

I found The Amityville Horror remake more entertaining than the original.

I liked Carrie too.

I haven't seen the original of House on Haunted Hill, but the remake was decent. Entertaining and all that.

Rementioning 13 Ghosts. It should have won awards for set design. Alas. The acting was alright, but the ghosts were fantastic as was the house the film takes place in. A very original idea regarding the house. Anyway, if you haven't seen it its a great flic. 7/10 or so.

The original is one of my favorite movies. It has Vincent Price and it's on YouTube in both black and white and color (if either have yet to be taken down). I highly recommend you give it a watch.
