THE THING (1982). Been awhile since I've watched this, but still think it's one of the best ever. The fact it didn't do boffo box office is proof that life can be so unfair. The commentary by Carpenter/Kurt Russell is also well worth checking out...they sound like they're having a great time. *****

I agree. I think it's one of the best horror & sci-fi films of all-time. IMO, if you're paying attention while watching, & you can understand it, it's gets your mind racing -- on how you're going to survive -- if your one of these guys. Plus, I think it's very immersive, visceral, horrifying, and most of the creature special effects are the best to date... IMO so far CG hasn't bested this realism.

night of the demons 1988

a bit of nostalgia for me, has aged quite well , an age before cgi took over, some lovely prop work. editing and direction lets it down at times and typical 80`s dialogue. over all still a solid movie 7/10.

My Bloody Valentine (1981)

When people say this is one of the better early slasher movies they aren't kidding. It holds up incredibly well and to this day is probably one of the best slasher films ever made. The premise that the killer returns to stop a Valentine's Day dance is a bit cheesy but completely forgivable considering how well done this film is. The acting is solid, the mood is eerie, the scares are tense, the kills are good and the gory special effects makeups are very effective even by today's standards. I think the miner is one of the better slasher movie villains. While the costume is kind of basic it is also very menacing and at times the use of breathing is reminiscent of Darth Vader.

Evil Dead Trap (1988)

Liked it a lot. Japanese giallo with some creative kills and traps. Kinda goes off the rails towards the end, but I still liked it.

8/10
