But don't you know that's the only effective way to make a horror movie is with jump scares? Pff, what are you expecting, clever story lines with intense scenes and deep characters to get under your skin?

ESCAPE FROM LA (1996). Big disappointment here-came out too long after the original and borrows way too much from NEW YORK. *1/2

SILENT NIGHT 2012

A deranged Santa sets about punishing those on his naughty list. Some festive fun for sure.

After his sad mess with the rise of Darth Vader trilogy, I've doubt that they have consider any of his idea relating to in what direction the series should go next. And now as we see they are mostly treating this whole re-birth of the franchise thing with a 'fandom' approach, focusing & repeating the things that the fans mostly like about the original saga. For a time being, it is a 'safe move' for both the Disney & Lucasfilm but it will be interesting to see how they going pitch the new things (including characters, story arc with fresh twists & turns) slowly into the new saga. Because eventually they have to do that & they know that, otherwise the same fans going to get tired of it at some point.
The thing that I mostly liked about the R1 was it's about the unsung heroes of the rebellions who were also fighting for the same great cause but without much direct influence of the Force or some Jedi backup. Found mostly the Cargo pilot guy who was the messenger for Galen Erso was underdeveloped or needed some back story.
One thing I'm still looking forward to see a strong, important or bad ass good guy sort of character from other species (obviously with human traits/values) other than just for some comic relief or as a side kick in this new saga. For example, they could have made the Rebel intelligence office Cassian somewhat like that. But liked the addition of Asian characters - Chirrut & Baze into the story. Thought the action scenes, particularly the final battle was pretty awesome, better executed than TFA.

I don't have any complain of using CG characters as long the story needs them there as now they have the supportive tech to properly fit them in, but yeah...surprised to see the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin got that much good amount of screen time here. It kinda gave me goosebumps, man!
Yes, I agree, loved seeing the asian and middle eastern characters take major roles in this. I was joking on my radio show that we would see many many Bothans die in this film (i.e "Many Bothans have died to bring us this information"), but we didn't see many non-human creatures playing major character roles in this film either.

And yes, I really hope the sequel to Force Awakens has some very new film experiences, concepts, stories and characters, cause Force was way too fandom for me.

I most decidedly think it was a mistake to use a CG face of Peter Cushing because when I saw him it completely took me out of the film/story! I didn't catch a word Tarkin said because I was immediately studying that face and voice... first thinking "Is Mr Cushing still alive?". Then I was studying the life-likeness levels of the face and movement, judging it. Then I was assessing if that was Cushing voice, even maybe a digital recreation... which is a compliment to actor Guy Henry, who did the voice, and was the body actor.

I wouldn't have minded an actor that looked like an ever so slightly younger looking Peter Cushing. I'm mean, let's be real here... Cushing was a minor character, only appearing in A New Hope, a 1977 film. Or just don't use Tarkin. The story didn't require him, and certainly didn't require showing him. In that respect, thinking about it now... it really was a fandom appearance.

I must own this, its magnificent.

Two drug addicts want to get high and stay high...they suck the fluids from starfish, called slugs in the movie. The scenes in here are just amazing. It comes in B&W and color.
