Been a while since I've posted in this thread, so this would be me catching up...

...

Where the Wild Things Are

Honestly, I was disappointed with this one. Was it gorgeous? Yes. Was the acting and voice acting great? Yes. Was Spike Jonez's vision incredible to watch on the big screen? Yes! I think my issue is that it honestly did not need to be a full-length movie. The muted tones served more to make the experience more bland than it should have been. At times I even found myself feeling kinda bored. Then again, the caveat to all this is that I was sick, so take my brief review with a grain of salt. I still give it 3 stars, though; considering the beauty I have a hard time giving it anything less.

3/5

...

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

REALLY low production value (at times reminiscent of a bad porno; there were scenes where it was CLEAR that the actors were not even on the same set), bad acting, horrible writing, and cheap vulgar humor. Reminds me a bit of watching Feast II after the original Feast. You begin to wonder if the original cult classic was just a fluke. Regardless, I cannot defend this movie, but I had a LOT of fun watching it. Embrace all of the flaw above along with its contrived twists and turns and you're enjoying it more ironically than anything else... But at least you're enjoying it. If you're a Boondock Saints fan, definitely see it, but don't pay theater prices for it.

2.5/5

Also - I absolutely want to DO Norman Reedus as Murphy MacManus, so that certainly helps...

...

Laid to Rest

Honestly, after seeing its trailer, I wanted nothing to do with this movie. It looked like cheap, contrived exploitation. But it was the positive reviews from HDCers that made me give this movie a try... And I'm glad that I did. Laid to Rest is a movie that shows that the slasher genre is far from dead and that even low budget films can shock their audiences - This movie had some kills that seriously made my jaw drop... And as a jaded horror viewer, that is honestly not easy to accomplish for me. The writing is good (at times flawed, but easy to forgive), the acting is great, and the kills are awesome. What more can you ask for in a slasher film? Definitely check this one out.

3.75/5

...

Seventh Moon

I had honestly been looking forward to this movie for quite some time. Director Eduardo Sanchez, co-director of Blair Witch had already made his solo directing debut with Altered, a film that I have recommended on this forum multiple times. So when I read that he was directing a movie based in China during Hungry Ghost Month, I was pretty psyched to see what he would produce...

The over-use of the shakey cam alone was enough to make me feel sick (and I'm not generally one to complain about shakey cams). Then there was the bad writing, horrible acting, and the fact that I would rather see our two heroes die than triumph, made this one of the lest successful horror movies that I've seen in a while. Also, I'm not sure how he did it, but he managed to strip any sort of tension completely out of every scare scene. It was like an exercise in ineptitude. Not worth seeing.

.5/5 (the .5 is for the concept, but that is all)

Perfect Blue (1998)

Crazy mindfuck of a movie - one of the most intense animés that I've seen, and more than deserving of it's spot on the HDC Top 100. Very glad I finally got around to watching this one.

"In a dark place" 2-3/10

Yet another "Turn of the screw".

This time the director had a new take on the story. Wasn't successful, but at least he tried something new with a movie that has been remade at least 10 times since the original back in the 50's. That's one each fifth year. Do we really need that many???

And another thing. I've never seen Leelee Sobieski acting this bad. It was like she just couldn't figure out how to play this character.

Halloween 6- 6.5/10

The first time i'd seen this one. Despite all the negative reviews and hate for it, I liked it a lot more than 4 and 5. It isn't great, but I enjoyed the idea and some of the kills. It felt like a midway film, between the original film and Zombie's remake.
