Shriekfest film festival

Lots of low-budget indie horror films at the 6th annual Shriekfest in Hollywood this weekend, includin Rolf Kanefsky's NIGHTMARE MAN, plus NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH and NIGHT OF THE LEBEN TOD. The gore quotient is pretty high in the last two, which seemed to please the audiences at the screenings, but for me, I found the experience mostly an education one, filled with valuable lessons, including:
  • *No one fills up the gas tank before going on a long journey.

*Everyone owns cell phones, but no one owns the cable to recharge the battery in the car's cigarette lighter after you run out of gas in the middle of nowhere.

*Even if you did recharge the cell phone, it wouldn't matter, because all those "can you hear me now?" commercials are complete b.s. - you'll never get a useful signal
