Yeah I don't get that either. It wasn't a great film, but I don't see how its 'for women.'

How does one determine a ''horror movie for women''?

Ghostwatch (1992)
Before Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project and even the criminally underrated The Last Broadcast was Ghostwatch. While it didn't really define found footage like the aforementioned movies did (technically, 1980's Cannibal Holocaust was the first to do it), it was one of the first films to have the characters film a majority of their scenes. Ghostwatch is a mockumentary about four respected presenters and their camera crew who attempt to discover the truth behind the most haunted house in the UK, which first aired in 1992. Ghostwatch is complete with testimonials, calls to the set from viewers, and live footage shot by the camera crew, making the viewer feel like they're watching a legitimate documentary. This does start out rather slowly, making the most of the documentary-style filmmaking, but after that gimmick starts to wear off, the film switches to more of a horror film. The last half of the plot takes twists and turns that you'll never predict while still scaring you senseless. If you're a fan of mockumentaries or ghost movies in general, you don't want to pass up Ghostwatch. 9/10

Went to see The Gallows last night and was surprised. My prediction that I would either love it or loathe it was wrong. I ended up just feeling kind of...lukewarm about it. It's silly and at times it's fun, particularly when the script deftly draws humor from "theater people" stereotypes, but where's the scares??
The movie seemed to rely solely on jump scares to create tension, which to me, doesn't work. Without tension and some believable drama, the jumps are just gratuitous. I liked the people in the movie, even the as8hole we all are supposed to hate, ( and yes he was obnoxious, which means the actor did his job ), but the movie never creates any palpable fear or anxiety so it fails as horror. I also found the last 5 minutes of the film pretty comedic, and I'm sure that wasn't the filmmakers intention. I think it was a fun watch, and if you have low expectations and a great buzz, you might at least have a good time. It's frivolous and you wont remember anything about the movie 48 hours later, but it's goofy enough to entertain. If you're looking for a scary movie with a strong story and a plot that isn't totally transparent, search elsewhere my friends. |

Here is my review on The Ward that will better explain my feelings - WARNING THERE ARE SPOILERS THAT WILL RELATE TO BOTH MOVIES!!! http://horror.com/forum/showpost.php...postcount=1085 In Silent House I did find myself attached to the main character, what was happening, and how or if she was going to escape. But once the final act happened, the majority of the first parts collapsed just like in The Ward. What I thought was going to happen did even though I really hoped there would be more to it. It is like those LMN movies with the troubled, broken, divorced, etc. woman. And I just think that the movie will have more impact on women. Or maybe people that went through traumatic experiences when young. |

Deep in the Darkness 2014
A doctor and his family move to a quiet, small town. Soon he discovers the town's dark secret. The first scene of the film is a scene near the end of the film. I REALLY do not like when this is done. It did not add anything to the film. Its slow for about 30 minutes, then goes a lot faster and becomes a lot more interesting for 20 minutes. Then it gets slow again until the end. The slow parts aren't interesting. The fast parts are good, not great. The very end was pathetic. I'd say fast forward until the doctor finds the 'dark secret.' And then watch for 20 minutes and then shut if off. 3/10
