 Shut In (2016) This could have been a passable thriller in the hands of a better writer and director, but it's mostly bland and half-baked.

 Arrival (2016) Interesting ideas afloat in this film, you need to go into the movie ready to use your brain ala sci-fi like Interstellar and Cloud Atlas. Finicky critics like horrorcrux will have to decide whether they like the concepts the films introduces or is more frustrated by the lack of resolution.

The Monster
 I really liked this. What made this film for me was the time spent on the two main characters and the drama between them. They put a lot of time into showing the horrible relationship between the mother and daughter but also into her desire to get better for her daughter. The movie works as a tale of redemption as well as a pretty good monster movie. 8/10
