OOPS! OK two more clues...

This was the Directors debut full length movie.
The "Bad guy"in the movie almost turned down the role for a lesser part because as he was a new actor he wanted the audience to see his face.

The clue about being inspired by an episode of a tv show makes me think of Shaun of the Dead?(thanks for the birthday wishes).
