It just seems like such an odd choice for a remake to me for some reason. But. hey, even though it is a guilty pleasure of mine, its not all that great, it might be improved upon. I'm pretty much against a remake of any film at this point though, there is way too many of them. And the last thing Zombie needs to do at this point is another remake, in my opinion. Well, maybe not the last thing, but you see my point. :D

Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward and Penn Badgley are set to star in “The Stepfather,” a Screen Gems remake of the 1987 thriller.

Adrianne Palicki is in negotiations to round out the cast.

Screem Gems is aiming the film as more of a Hitchcock-style thriller than the original. Story centers on a teenage boy (Badgley) who discovers his soon-to-be stepfather isn’t all he appears. In fact, the man who fell in love with his mother (Sela Ward), might be a psycho who murdered his previous family. Palicki would play the boy’s girlfriend.

Nip/Tuck” star Walsh plays the title role originated by “Lost” star Terry O’Quinn. O’Quinn played the role in a 1989 sequel as well.

The redo will be directed by Nelson McCormick (“Prom Night”) from a script by J.S. Cardone. Greg Mooradian and Mark Morgan of Maverick Films will produce.

Production is aimed to start in March or April.

ShockTillYouDrop.com has received word that Marcus Nispel is closing in on Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th remake-project.

The remake will focus on Jason Voorhees -- who will wear the infamous mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

Nispel helmed the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake for the Dunes boys back in 2003 and has since directed Pathfinder with Karl Urban. His deal is close to complete and that shooting is expected to begin this winter.

Nispel will be working from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. The remake shoots from February 11 in Austin, Texas.

Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.

***SPOILER ALERT*** (may contain major spoilers about characters and their fates)

Complete Casting for Friday the 13th remake -

WHITNEY Caucasian. Mid 20s. Younger sister to Clay. Pretty and strong girl. She has the smarts and the will to survive in the most desperate of circumstances.

CLAY Caucasian. Late 20s. Older brother of Whitney. He's good-looking and has a quiet inner confidence. He's a dedicated and smart guy. All the girls definitely find him attractive.

CHUMBLER Caucasian, early to mid-20s. A little chubby, but he wears his size well, along with his cool chin beard. He has a tendency to make wear his attraction to attractive girls on his sleeve. He has no shame.

TRENT Caucasian, early to mid-20s. The Alpha-Male. He's got money, and he wants you to be his friend... especially if you can do something for him.

JENNA Caucasian, early to mid-20s. Trent's date for the weekend. She's great-looking, athletic, and the adventurous type. We wonder why she would be with Trent.

LAWRENCE Black, early to mid-20s. Good-looking and funny as hell. He's smart and is already trying to get his own company started. He puts on a white sounding "good ol' boy" voice when talking to his business associates.

NOLAN He wears a T-shirt that says F**K CHRISTMAS - The asterisks are snowflakes. But when an older woman walks by, he crosses his arms, covering it. Nolan poses as a rebel, but he's just as square as the rest of us.

CHELSEA Attractive college girl. Friends with BREE, but not as sexy.

BREE Attractive friend to Chelsea, definitely the sexier of the two, and she dresses to make sure you can tell the difference. Hot as Hell!

WADE Caucasian, mid-20s. He's technologically inclined... at least enough to use a GPS Receiver. He knows the story about Camp Crystal Lake and he tells it to his crew around a campfire.

MIKE Caucasian, mid-20s. Whitney's boyfriend. He's a genuine and logical guy. He makes sure that his friends, and especially Whitney, are safe and taken care of. He's a really nice guy.

AMANDA Caucasian, mid-20s, voluptuous. Perfectly tanned and sexy. She's into Richie...at least for the weekend.

RICHIE Caucasian, mid-20s. Funny and definitely attracted to Amanda. He doesn't waste time making a move on her.

No Mrs. Voorhees? Weak. Just weak. Marcus Nispel? Double weak. Michael Bay? Triple weak. Too many characters. Quadrouple weak. I'm gonna shun the hell out of this sucker!

Regarding how the new “Friday the 13th” movie will open and ‘Will Mama Voorhees be in the new movie?’...here's the lowdown :-

***WARNING*** (HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD)

“The new Friday the 13th is going to open with Jason as a legend in the Crystal Lake area. Five kids out in the woods looking for a bunch of weed they planted and stumble upon the deserted Camp Crystal Lake. Sitting around the fire that night, the dweeby one (there's always a dweeby one) tells the legend of Jason Voorhees. After that the Survivor Girl and her boyfriend wander off into the woods, where they find a shitty old cabin. Inside are some clues, like a bed with the name Jason carved in it. An old picture of a girl who looks just like Survivor Girl. And Mama Voorhees' head. Cue Jason. He murderizes the other four kids, and as he grabs Survivor Girl... slam into the opening credits.”

Apparently the film gets a little less novel because the script “essentially becomes a rehash of the first four movies” but whose going to complain about that? That’s what the series is all about – Jason slicing and dicing, it’d be pretty disconcerting if the plot involved Jason opening up a disco for dead disfigured kids or some shit.

Meantime, New Line Cinema has announced a release date for the film - it'll be out Feb 13, 2009... yep, same week as Valentine's day!

In 1931, Dracula also opened on Valentine's Day. But Dracula wasn't awful. How could they do this? I used to believe in things. Sigh.

Sure thing.

1 - No Mama Voorhees in this one.

2 - Jason killing everything in his path as usual.

3 - It will be a shitty remake, again, as usual.

THE GATE is being remade

from JoBlo.com:
We're hearing that a remake of the suburban horror cheapie THE GATE is the latest to get a modern facelift. Word is that Randall William Cook will direct the update, and he's certainly qualified for monster mayhem -- he's an Oscar-winning FX guru who worked on KING KONG and the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy... not to mention the original THE GATE and its sequel. The plan is reportedly to shoot the new version in all-the-rage 3-D. No mention yet on a writer or studio, but considering Cook's WETA background, could Peter Jackson's involvement be far behind?

The original fashion-dated flick (a fun little gem with a decent premise and lots of stop-motion creatures) starred a young Stephen Dorff, who discovers that a portal to hell has manifested in his backyard thanks to an unlikely combination of celestial alignment, deceased family dog, fallen tree, weird friend and heavy metal lyrics. The rift unleashes all manner of chaos, mostly in the form of mischievous little demon minions. You can taste a nostalgic sample RIGHT HERE.
Big thanks to 'pixel grunt' for providing the scoop!

Extra Tidbit: THE GATE and its sequel were directed by Tibor Takacs, who went on to a made-for-cable career that includes KRAKEN: TENTACLES OF THE DEEP, MEGA SNAKE and (of course) MANSQUITO.

That's my Kraken, btw;)
