It's a vicious cycle. You can tell which ones inspire which ones.

I have never played any of the RE games, but i have seen enough that the major disappointment in the first movie was that it had zombies, zombie dogs, and the licker, that is it. If you are going to make a movie out of a video game, use more than 2% of the monsters.....

I have to give the RE movies credit. I like them more than the games. The games fail to keep my attention >.>;;. Now Silent Hill on the other hand...not hoping it will become a movie...but should it become a bad one I might have something to bitch about then.

Asian horror
What's your opinion on asian horror? And Hollywood remake's?
I prefere the original |

I think you're gonna get largely the same response across the board here, man...most people are very much behind the originals...I assume you're referring mainly about the "ghost" kinda films that have been under remake mania, as opposed to all kinds of asian horror, so, lets talk about how I feel about those thus far.
The ring for example...a lot of people actually liked the US remake...but when compared, I found that while the USA version had more mood enducing music, and gorier effects...the "silence" of the original, the minimalist use of "gore" by comparison (eg - the bodies just looked more terrified than fucked up) worked to excellent effect for me. The asian version felt more tense all the way through, not to mention, explained the story a lot better. I haven't seen the original ju-on myself, but apart from some interesting effects, and the fact that it got quite good about 5 minutes before it just ended....I didn't think all that much good about....but, I cannot speak comparatively in this case, so I'll leave it alone. I think the US film makers rely on different methods to establish atmosphere...and, unfortunately when remaking these asian films, they have not really thus far captured what's made them the weird-out unnerving creepfests that they are. Closest I've EVER seen to the "feel" of an asian horror would be Lynch's Eraserhead...maybe he should work on one of these remakes, eh? I don't hate US remakes or anything...however, I've yet to find one that has outdone it's asian predecessor. Dark water looks promising, however, I've not seen the original. While talking asian films, here's a few I like - Uzumaki Battle Royale Mister Vampire Tales of the unusual Versus The Returner ...Not all horror, but all worth checking out if you've not yet. Oh yeah, hi, welcome...all that shit. |
