Red Riding Trilogy: 1974-1980-1983 (2009)
![]() Set against the backdrop of child serial murders as well as the Yorkshire Ripper killings, with a great bunch of actors this 3 part TV movie is pretty slow burn & depressing but quite convincingly portrays a harrowing world of multi-layered police corruption and organized crime. Not for everyone, but definitely worth a watch for anyone who's got the patience for a long, noir-like crime drama-thriller. Liked the first 2 parts mostly, expected a better conclusion in the final part which wasn't delivered. >>: B+ Wrath of the Titans (2012) ![]() >>: B- Exit Humanity (2011) ![]() >>: C+

Maybe I'll try a double feature with The Thing. But I thought that the prequel/remake wasn't needed. It didn't get what made the original one of the best horror movies. That sense of paranoia. I've only seen it once. But I didn't get the feeling that I was seeing one of the best horror movies ever with the 2011 version like I did with the Carpenter version. I thought Mary Elizabeth Winstead did fine with what she was given. A better director (Cameron, Tarantino, Scott, etc) would have made her one of the best female movie characters.

I love John Cusack and Edgar Allen Poe and you'd think it would be a great match but IMO it's not. It is more like a Sherlock Holmes mystery than an Edgar Allen Poe mystery/horror story. Though I love Sherlock Holmes, when I watch a movie about Edgar Allen Poe I expect some supernatural elements to it, that's what he is best known for, this movie had none. It was an okay movie, decent acting, it just lacked that Poe feel to it. |
