As far as being able to keep the list strong past 20 -- I hear ya, Straker -- it's tempting to want to include childhood favorites that aren't all that great. I managed to resist the temptation too, and I think it's still pretty easy to keep the list strong. Just for fun, here's my next 20.

A bunch of those are gonna be in my top 20 easily and a few I would like in there but will probably fall short.... I'm really hoping The Changeling and Altered States are gonna feature in plenty of lists though, the fact that they didn't make your top 20 has be a little worried now. (Less worried about the omission of stuff like NOES and F13 as I think they will be in most peoples lists anyway). Just hoping The Changeling isn't gonna be one of those classics that slips through the cracks.

I share your sentiment... It's hard to imagine certain iconic movies not making the list. Personally, I think there are better movies that ANOES and F13 for that decade, however it would be downright weird if they didn't make the list. I suspect up to half of my top 20 won't make the final cut. It's a double edge sword: either make the list like every other 80s horror list, or include less obvious (and according to my rankings, better) movies on the list, and risk those iconic movies falling off. Ah, the predicament of having such a prolific decade of horror. :)

They were #2 and #3 for me.

My list is nearly done, its come down to a toss up between Basket Case and Day of the Dead.... I've cut so much trashy cinema, stuff like Bad Taste, Brain Damage, Killer Klowns, Street Trash are all long gone, but I don't think I can let Basket Case go..... I could make it easy on myself and cut The Video Dead, but that's just not happening. :cool:
