Night of the Hunter (1955). Eschewing traditional cinematic storytelling, this wonderful classic is the epitome of an odyssey as told through the eyes of children. A tale of a bogeyman in sheep's clothing, this flick meanders in its own way, sometimes dreamily, towards its own style of denouement. Robert Mitchum is awesome as the rotten preacher man, unctuously worming his way into the hearts of his victims, innocent lambs that they are. The children's parts were no less awesome, their plight a heart-wrenching journey into the unknown world of a depressed era. The direction was superb; it is sad that this actor did not make good the transition of actor to director. The camera work was awesome, with shot composure that was nothing less than magical. The ending congealed the fact that this was not a formulaic piece, instead ending on a note of its design. Merci beaucoup.

"Predators" 8/10
Entertaining from the first second, but nothing more than that. Typical sequal characters. "Case 39" 6-7/10 Seen a similar story more than once before, but it was quite decent nevertheless. Zellweger & Ferland did good.

Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
Oh, same old acrobats! To me, it's the weakest entry so far in the series. >>: C Piranha 3D (2010) Wow! It was a blast! Gore & nudity on epic proportion, but that 'twist' at the last scene was unnecessary. Otherwise absolutely as well as thoroughly enjoyed it. >>: B+ Night of the Demons (2009) Quote:
Anyway, it's a pretty decent remake indeed. >>: B Piranha II: The Spawning aka Flying Killers (1981) >>: C+ Mega Piranha (2010) >>: C- Night of the Demons (1988) >>: B

Lake Placid (1999). A light-hearted affair, Lake Placid is one of those flicks that is best entertained when one could use a little comic relief. From the get go, this is a blatant comic ripoff of Jaws and it knows it. More so, Lake Placid never tends towards serious aspirations as it assiduously attends to the business at hand, which is to make fun of itself. The cast all deliver their roles with the aplomb accorded their due. Oliver Platt and Betty White are top notch competitors for the agency of hilarity. The story itself takes a backseat to the fun here, and in doing so the willing viewer is bequeathed to some 88 minutes of creature feature joy. Merci beaucoup.

Brick (2005). It's accelerated English meets seedy underworld, totally unbelievable, but no body's counting, no body cares. This neo-film noir piece is set in high school, with all the right elements transposed onto the world of geeks and stoners, thespians and socialites. With dialog taken straight from another genre and seamlessly integrated into our heroes and villains, Brick creates a world both familiar and strange, transporting the viewer into a new realm of the universe. The acting was solid with characters that never strayed. The dialog was sublime though a tad discombobulating. The story itself was wickedly smart and stylish. Directed with flair and aplomb, Brick almost creates a genre unto itself, almost.

"The hole" 7/10
Oh Roshiq... were to begin. In short (as always). Exactly like "Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer" this one started out very promising with good funny dialogue, good story, good pacing and a good build-up. But the problem with both movies is the constant build-up until a disappointing ending. For shame.. "Four boxes" 4/10 Not really a horror movie. Good actors/ Annoying computer nerd characters who are at least 10 years too old for their computer slang vocabulary. The low budget story moved on veeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly until the last twisted 15 minutes, which not many would've guessed, i'm sure. The very ending was crap and didn't make a lot of sense. "The Descent 2" 7/10 Just like "Predators". A good entertaining sequal, but not a lot of new added to it. A nice return of one of the characters tho. "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" 6/10 Thought the story was quite bad and uninteresting, but the visuals and all the famous faces mad up for it in the end.
