The Seventh Continent

This is Haneke's first feature film. It is bleak, it is arty, it does asks lot of questions. I think it is a great movie for discusiion, but not much I can tell you in a sentence. If you like his movies then after watching this, you realize it fits very nicely into the puzzle that is Michael Heneke.

8/10

Brother (1997). On the surface this is a sublime though done-on-the-cheap Russian crime drama. But Russian is far from superficial. On the deep this is about a culture suffering from an identity crisis, a crisis that was imbued with a Darwinian power struggled from the fall of communism. Fresh from martial dealings with the Chechnyans, this is about a Russia looking to branch out towards the West without losing its own identify. The effect is social bedlam. The acting was awesome, with competent direction and camera work. The story itself was solid, told in a fashion that was refreshing in that every nuance did not require a crayoned out explanation to the audience. This was simply a tale of a not so simple culture. Ashe.

Bosque de sombres (Backwoods)

Set in 70s Spain, two couples on holiday to Gary Oldmans family home discover a young deformed girl who has been severely mistreated in an abandoned house. A group of locals attempt to prevent them from taking her away to the authorities.

Its a good film , some solid performances, especially by Gary Oldman and some genuinely tense moments. There is a but somewhere and I cant quite figure out where, maybe if you watch it you can tell me what it is that doesnt feel right which I cant put my finger on. That said, its still worth checking out.

New Moon- sorry, watched it with a girl friend x Have to say I actually quite enjoyed it. The vamp is a wuss though. The Lycanthrope much more bestial x
Admit I may have to go watch,(or at least read) Eclipse.

Dead or Alive final

This was my favorite in the series. It had a good story even though it wasn't terribley original. It just seemed to work better than the other ones. Still in was nothing that blew my mind though.

Dawn of the Dead 78 for the first time strangely. Loved it so much.

Now i'm making my eyes and brain take in a ton of Twin Peaks episodes.

Hunt Angels

A great Australian movie about the fight for Australian cinema in the 1940s/50's, it focusses on film maker Rupert Kathner who battled and stole and cheated to try and tell the storys of this country in film. I think it is a must see for any film maker.

It's Alive

It didn't freak me out as much as it did when I watched it when I was a kid, but still a good horror flick. I rented the box set with all three movies. I haven't seen the sequals before so I am looking forward to watching them.
