mirrors (2008)
it starts off well enough, with some good introductory gore and an intensity that instantly pulls you in. it looks rich and dark. in the first couple minutes, i am pleased. however, for the most part, it's all downhill from there. the problem is that mirrors has such an absurd plot that it's nearly impossible not to roll your eyes every few minutes. the dialogue is awful, the acting is mediocre at best, and while it's punctuated with some wonderfully chilling scenes and great gore, it's also littered with awkward melodrama. by the end, you're waist deep in a mess of plot holes, cliches, and kiefer sutherland. i mean, it's not all bad. there are some great sequences here and there, and it's very technically well-done. rent it, though. it's not really worth an overpriced movie ticket. overall, disappointing fare. 5/10

Good God... Are you easily impressed? Or just overly sympathetic to the unfinanced filmmaker cause? I thought that movie was terrible and I find it offensive that After Dark would show that abomination while there are scores of independent filmmakers struggling for audience and distribution.
