(also called Mindscape in European regions)

Intriguing, slow-paced, tense and taut psychological thriller, borrowing plenty from Inception, The Cell & The Silence of the Lambs. Recommended if you have the patience for it, and not if you are into explosions, pacy stuff, overt violence, excessive gore, etc.

And don't worry if you are left with questions in the end. The movie makes you think about it all over, slowly, again, until you find your own answers to all your questions.

Thumbs up. Oh and, Taissa Farmiga is a hottie. Remember her from American Horror Story (Murder House and Coven)?

Has some decent jumpy scares and plenty of action in the last 15-20 minutes, but I thought the teenage angst bit was stretched a bit too much, and the film lost some of it's scariness due to this factor alone. The ending felt rushed and a ton of things were "explained" using unnecessary flashbacks, which could have been unfolded earlier and that could have helped the film to stick to it's original plotline. As things stood, this ended up being a teen film for the most part, with a horror twist/cameo thrown in.

A decent watch, but not very impressed.

The Fourth Kind 2009

5/10

"Actual footage" together with dramatisation was an interesting concept. Worked on some levels. Was expecting much more from the story, or something more daring. Instead I found it rather simple and formulaic. The "UFO crowd" would likely find it old and shallow. Horror fans today would likely find old hat and cliche. Pacing and acting were fine.

I stopped the movie after the first 15 minutes. Just wasn't good.

Hatchet III (2013)

The kills in this movie are absolutely brutal. I love the opening. The chainsaw scene was extremely well done. The head explosion kill with the defibrillators was pretty cool too. I like the new additions to the cast specifically Zach Galligan, Caroline Williams and Derek Mears. Sid Haig showing up came as a complete surprise and he was hysterical. Joel Moore's cameo was also pretty cool. I thought the ending was really satisfying.

You'll love it, I am sure. The SOTL inspiration is very evident.

I follow the 5-star system:

* * * * * = Excellent
* * * * = Very Good
* * * = Good
* * =Average
* = Poor
