I'm almost through with the game. It's really not that great, actually. There are some genuinely creepy moments, but the nurses (the BEST monsters in a video game series ... at least in the first 3 Silent Hills) are not frightening at all this time around. They're huge, hulking monstrosities, and when you whack 'em a good one with your axe, they belch. Not the right effect.

Also, the ghosts would be okay if they weren't so fucking impossible to kill and they keep following you around. They do damage to you just by being in the fucking room!

Another thing that is missing: the darkness. The Silent Hill series used to churn up the serious scares simply because the monsters would shuffle at you through the dark. You can hear them, but you can't see them until they're right on top of you. Silent Hill 4 has eliminated the darkness, and much of the scares along with it.

Also, the game is too SHORT! (At least, I think it's too short ... I'm not through, yet. So, there may be more coming up when I get through with this second hole.) But, I have a pretty good feel for when a story is about to end ... and this one is about to end soon. You go through 4 worlds (which aren't very large) and gather plates that help you open up another hole from your apartment. This hole has two worlds in it that, again, aren't very long. Well, the second one is kind of long ... but the first was not. The second is just a mix of all the previous worlds you have been to.

For all the hype, this game falls incredibly short of my expectations. What a disappointment.

Okay, I just read some reviews of the game .... and I guess I was wrong about the length. The part I am coming up to is merely the end of the first HALF, which is much better. I guess I need to play the game through to the end to see what's up.

Im stating again that it is a pretty fun game and i like it. It is hard at parts but the story is pretty good. And there tends to be a "i dont want to go down there" moments.......

Okay, I got to the last boss last night. And I was right the first time. The game is too short. For some reason, the review I read said that it takes about 8 hours to beat the game .... but this is not true at all. It took me a total of 4 hours 17 minutes. Sure, it's fun .... and I actually saw the creepiest thing I have ever seen in a video game thanks to SH 4, but the puzzles are too easy, the monsters (except for the ghosts) are a breeze to beat up once you've mastered the dodge maneuver, and the overall game simply lacks the scares and tensions I felt while playing the earlier titles in the series. But, the story is more straightforward and compact, which really makes you feel like you're playing an original, interactive horror movie rather than a video game. This is the best thing about the game.

I'm not sorry I bought it ... I just expected too much, I suppose. And this is the last Silent Hill title until PS3 and X-Box 2 come out! Whaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

Well, there are 2 that were really very creepy. One is when you are running about in the hospital looking for your neighbor, and you go into one of the rooms and your neighbor's head is there. Only, it's HUGE (takes up half the room), and her eyes are twitching, but following you wherever you go. That was pretty creepy.

The scene I mentioned, though, is when you are in your apartment during the stages when it begins to get really messed up (haunting-wise). One haunting is at your front door. You approach the door, and start to take damage (which is how you know a ghost is nearby), and you see a trickle of blood running from your peephole. When you peek through the hole, you see YOU standing right outside the door ... only, you're all bloody and you're mumbling something (you can't hear anything, you just see your mouth moving slightly.) It was creepy as hell. I had to call the wife into the room to check it out.

Yeah i remember a couple moments like that in SH3 like when you are staring in the mirror and "alexa" is in the mirror and blood is everywhere. That part creeped me out for some reason
