Nope. The books aren't that old. The original comic came first and was presented in a few parts. That was like in the early 80's. Then it was printed in graphic novel form. The movie came in 1994 and while it is amazing, it is way different from it's original source. Both are great though. I personally love the graphic novel over the film but the film is still my favorite flick of all time. The other comics I mentioned above came in between the first and the second movie. The novels came in between part 2 and shortly after part 3. There will most likely be more comics sometimes in the future.
On a side note: there was also another Crow comic series did by McFarlane's people. It also tried to follow Eric Draven like the TV series did only much more dark and violent. It failed to.

Edward Furlong will be playing The Crow in the new film. You may remember him from Terminator 2, Brainscan, Pet Semetary Two, and Detroit Rock City.

The only two reasons I might check this movie out is:
a. Tony's obviously gonna buy it and b. Dennis Hopper rules.
