I didn't even make it through NightWatch... Found it boring, pretentious and actually confusing (wasn't sure how the beginning "tale" related to the rest of the film)... I'm curious as to why they would even have a second one...

I thought the third one was pretty abysmal, though I'm not sure why I subject myself to those movies at all... Torture porn isn't really my thing... But, still, there is that macabre curiosity... I'll probably wind up renting it.

...

Most recently watched films of moi:

Cinderella

Korean film centering around a girl whose mom is a successful plastic surgeon. Meanwhile, her friends are haunted by a dead wet girl (why is it always dead wet girls??)...

Honestly, not that bad a ghost story. Pretty typical I think of Asian cinema; fairly slow build-up with some pretty poor editing choices at the beginning... The payoff is pretty ultimately horrific, however. I would recommend if you are a fan of Asian ghost stories.

C+/B-

Pecker

Possibly my favorite John Waters film, this movie definitely has all the quirkiness that the director promises with a little bit of heartwarm... It's a film about an aspiring photographer, Edward Furlong (MAN! When was the last time you saw him?!) and his subjects, spanning from the gay bar down the street to his sugar-obsessed little sister, to Christina Ricci.

Fantastic film. B+/A-

Arang

Another Asian ghost story, again from Korea. A female detective investigating the bizarre murders revolving around four male friends...

Honestly, I actually found it incredibly well directed and an interesting take on the feminist side of horror. Seriously. Director Sang-hoon Ahn creates a believable strong woman and challenges the patriarchal horror archetype by objectifying and haunting the male characters. That's not to say that this movie is devoid of sexism, but in the Asian Horror world of victimized girls, it's good to see that it's not only the Ghost fulfilling revenge, but the detective as well.

I really enjoyed it and would definitely see it again.

B/B+
