Wow.. ok.. just wow.
Your friend knows 2 things about computers: jack, and shit. I fix computers for a living. For one thing, if he was trying to have you do what I think he was, then he would've had to give you a LOT more instructions than that, plus you have to have a floppy disk with the correct files on it, which would be called a BOOT DISK. Now, there is a way to fix your config.sys file, but without the help of a computer technician, you're better off just reinstalling Windows. All you should have to do is put the Windows CD-ROM in your cd drive when the computer is first starting and it should automatically start the Windows setup. If that doesn't work, it must be an ID 10 T error.

Ok, since your computer obviously doesn't support a bootable cdrom (you said you can't access your cd rom drives from the command prompt right?) You will need to get Windows setup boot disks. I'm going to assume you have XP, because you should. Windows XP Home Edition http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...eleaseID=33290 Windows XP Professional http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...eleaseID=33291 Download the program, then use it to create the setup boot disks (6). Here is a step by step: (If you had important files copy them to a floppy disk. If you have big files you'll have to link-up to another computer and transfer them) Put disk 1 in the computer and boot her up. Put in Disk 2,3,4,5,6 when prompted Select to format the C drive (Didn't actually think you could get away with your files intact did you?) Make sure your Windows XP CD is in the correct drive Then select reinstall windows. Last edited by Leper Messiah; 02-07-2004 at 09:59 AM. |

It won't let me get in to windows. Safe mode or normal.
and I think Leper is right. I got in to Windows Setup by doing what he said but I didn't want to format. I just need to know how to copy my documents on to a floppy without using windows. Last edited by Angelakillsluts; 02-08-2004 at 09:12 AM. |

If she had WinXP, her CD-ROM drive would HAVE TO BE BOOTABLE. Any computer that is new enough to support WinXP would have a bootable CD-ROM, it's probably just not configured correctly in the BIOS. Other than that, you're golden.
