The Psychic aka Seven Notes in Black (1977)

A perfectly well crafted murder mystery from Italian gore maestro which hardly qualifies as a Giallo. But that doesn’t matter at all. Yeah..may be the body count was extremely low and the gore was mostly absent but Fulci in his own style manages to build and hold the tension and suspense brilliantly throughout the movie. A must see for Fulci fans.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)

It's about a small town, Endora, where nothing ever happens with going nowhere people. A simple town where people find excitements when a mentally challenged boy climbs the town water tower or at the arrival of 'Burger Burn' into their locality. And in this town the twenty-year-old Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp), takes us on a journey through his everyday life with his fatherless family. Gilbert tries to do good for everyone but doesn't know quite what he wants for himself actually. He’s sensitive and lovingly protective for his mentally challenged younger brother Arnie, less understanding of the plight of his grossly overweight mother. The film nicely blends with comedy, drama, love and everyday emotion, perfected with beautiful cinematography and superb directing; nonetheless with a brilliant cast. The performances of Johnny Depp, Darlene Cates and Juliette Lewis are unparalleled and truly wonderful. The biggest surprise was DiCaprio as Arnie, the performance that makes this film a must see. Moreover, it was nice to have some little comic relief from the city coroner Bobby (Crispin Glover) and the local handyman (John C. Reilly).

Perhaps it’s not a ground breaking or too spectacular film with an extraordinary storyline. But surely is a very beautiful and touching movie that will always have a special place in my heart.
