You might have a hard time with some chain stores unless you develop a good relationship with the manager, which is tough for out of town stores, so the nonreturnability kind of limits you to areas where you can actually show your face. Your brand of horror isn't really the kind of stuff you can't get published anywhere, so self publishing as a venture for anything beyond an attempt at generating a calling card (which doesn't always work anyway) is a risky proposition. Try Leisure or some of the markets on Ralan's list, which I'm assuming you're familiar with.
