holy smokes, i love this film.
it's so visually stunning, and it features one of my favorite performances in cinema history- brigitte helm as the robot maria.

powell and pressburger's
black narcissus (1947)
a pretty powerful look at a convent buried deep in the himalayas as they, along with the surrounding community, deal with heavy emotions and a bit of psychosis, all of which become mixed and increase, resulting in a climax that comes off over-the-top and even frightening. the film begins well and ends strongly, but the middle seems to sag a bit.
definitely worth a watch, though.
