Last Seen pre-1970 Classic/Vintage Horror Movie?

as Halloween quickly approaches again, I've been watching more than my usual share of horror films (both old and new) and since the classics are my personal favorites I've been watching them more than most and I began to wonder what my fellow classic fright fans have been watching of late, so here's my list of the films I'm watching today, what are you watching?

1. Dracula (1931) w/ Lugosi
2. Son Of Dracula w/ lon Chaney jr
3 The Ghost Breakers w/ Bob Hope
4. Frankenstein meets The Wolf Man w/Chaney jr & Lugosi

Lorre 10-24-2005 04:48 PM

Do you like Lon Chaney Sr. or Lon Chaney Jr. better? I happen to be a huge Lon Chaney Sr. fan.

I LOVE "M", and Peter Lorre, who you're obviously a fan of. his performances all fascinate me, and "M" was just so darka nd chilling...great movie.

alkytrio666 10-25-2005 09:46 AM

I just watched "The Killer Shrews", which I loved, even thought it was apparent that the shrews were just dogs with rat tails pinned on their asses.

Lorre 10-25-2005 10:27 AM

Peter Lorre: The Master of Menace. What a great actor. I loved him in The Comedy of Terrors with Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone. He was also great in The Man Who Knew Too Much. Oh, and Peter was in The Raven with Vincent, Boris, and a very young Jack Nicholson. All great movies to watch this time of year.

Loved him in The Raven! Ive only seen him in that and Casablanca, which he was great in as well.

Peter Lorre was incredible. I prefer M to all his other stuff, personally. His facial expressions say every bit as much as Chaney's I think.
As for the last classic I saw, I watched Night of the Living Dead yesterday and the Invisible Man, both with my spellbound three year old brother who then insisted on watching Bride of Frankenstein. I'm thinking of renting the original "The Thing" tomorrow, but I can't remember all that much about it.

phantomstranger 10-25-2005 07:56 PM

Tonight's classics:

It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
House Of Dark Shadows
The Haunting (original)

I also caught the hysterically funny "Dracula 3000" on cable this afternoon. Man, what a turd

I watched Tales from the Darkside the Movie today and I would count it as an 80s classic and tonight I'm going to see the Howard Hawks The Thing again. Sadly, neither videostore in my town has the Carpenter one. Lousy Pennsylvania suburbs.

phantomstranger 10-26-2005 05:58 PM

Today's fare:

Curse Of The Undead (a late 1950's Universal film about a vampire in the old west)

and

The Mad Monster Party

Try Frankenstein or House on Haunted Hill (original).

If you really want to know your roots, watch Nosferatu. Enjoyable every time, but requires patience.

Honestly what the hell is it? Nosferatu ?? When was it released ?

Jacob Singer 10-29-2005 01:37 PM

Its realised in 1922 by Murnau, its the first adaptation of vampires myth.....and a real cool movie. Try to see it.

To continue what Jacob Singer said

"Nosferatu" is a 1922 German Black and White silent movie starring an actor named Max Schreck. It is the first adaption of the novel "Dracula"(and some say the best) The movie was an unauthorized version of the book and Bram Stokers widow sued the filmaker F.W. Murnau and most of the prints were destroyed in the '20's but a few survived and the film has taken it's place among the early horror classics. I personally think the film is one of the greats, you should check it out. You may also be interested in the 1979 remake and the film "Shadow Of The Vampire"( a "Fictional" look at the making of the original film)

thank you phantomstranger!!!
Ok American meniac, you've got now all the info.....no excuses, go out and find the movie
There was another version of Nosferatu (maybe with Claus Kinski)? I can't remember now

To cut all the shit, it's basically the first of all horror movies. Some will get bitchy and say there was one before it, but this was the history maker.

Know your roots.

Bitching about Melies horror flicks aside [Although his Manoir du Diable IS widely considered the absolute first horror flick], what about The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari? 1919, 3 years before the amazing film that is Nosferatu was made.

Know your roots:p

highly enjoyable

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 01:21 PM

Thank you. Could you tell me the year of that movie?

zwoti 10-30-2005 01:25 PM

78/79

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 01:30 PM

Thank you. I'll try to found it

SmittyKool 10-30-2005 06:08 PM

the last one I saw was Freaks. One line to sum of that movie, to those who have seen it, "We accept you. One of us". That just creeps me out

slasherman 10-31-2005 01:01 AM

"Testament du Dr. Mabuse, Le" (1933)..very good cause this is fucking old...with sound..not soundtrack but sound !
..I have to admit I'm not watching a lot of old ("classic") movies...this is due to the hardnes of getting them...and a lot of them just seems foolish and outdated......
