What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

Well, I need to see this movie.

As I have said before, my dad is not a fan of horror movies. But last night, he was telling me how much he enjoyed this film when he saw it as a small child. He said that there were some parts it that scared him so much, he can still remeber them to this day.

What do you guys think of it? Ill have an opinion soon, just as long as Blockbuster has it....

I have seen this a long time ago And I can't remember If it's good or not!! Sorry!

Dark_Hero 10-10-2004 04:58 PM

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!

I hate Blockbuster here....doesnt have a great selection. At all. A few decent flicks though, of course.

gothicvamp1888 10-11-2004 04:55 AM

whatever happened to baby jane is a classic starring bette davis, it is an excellent movie if u like old B+W thrillers, like i have said before, some of the B+W movies of the latter day are better than most of todays attempts and this film is no exception, worth checking out in my opinion.

newb 10-12-2004 05:57 AM

Classic thriller with some great performances. I wouldn't call it scary especially by todays standards.I had seen this as a child and was never frightened by it.

Preacher 10-15-2004 06:11 AM

Very good movie. Bette Davis is completely evil in it.

You gotta watch it. Athough might not appeal to you Vamp.

It's really good. One of my favorites. My mom said the same things your dad said. It's actually a little haunting and creepy more than scary, but it's still awesome.

My blockbuster doesn't have it, but you can check online or call before you go. I had a really hard time finding it at video stores, but I found a copy at our library, on DVD. They've got a lot of old great movies like that.

hellfire1 10-18-2004 10:24 AM

no one has ever been able to play the bitch like bette davis did. great movie, but not scary imo.

zwoti 10-18-2004 10:32 AM

joan crawford was good as well...

hellfire1 10-18-2004 11:57 AM

yes she was. i'm watching "all about eve" right now.... anne baxter is very "slap-worthy" in this one...

N0Hypocrites 10-25-2004 09:07 PM

Blockbuster does carry it however. This is one of my hands down favorite films. There's a lot of dark humor in it. I recently saw 'Living Hell', a Japanese film (taglined 'The Japan Chainsaw Massacre') which borrowed heavily from 'Baby Jane' in many ways. There's no monsters or tons of blood and gore, but the film is way chilling. I just wish I took better care in labeling my videos so I could find out which tape I have it on LOL. Pick it up off eBay for the price of a rental if you have to. It's well worth it.

BTW Davis and Crawford actually hated each other in real life and working together on this film didn't seem to help matters much.

juanhacko 10-25-2004 09:32 PM

Davis is a real bitch and the automobiles are wonderful.

I didn't notice whether anyone mentioned there is the original version--Davis and Crawford--and a remake with the Redgraves--also good but more contemporary.

N0Hypocrites 10-25-2004 09:54 PM

I almost completely forgot about that made-for-tv remake! Of course I watched it at the time. I thought it was a very pale comparison to the original at best. The original is untouchable as far as I'm concerned.

I just watched this a few days ago. I found it nerve-wracking. I'd probably consider it more of a suspense film then a horror technically, but it is definitely creepy! 100% worth renting.

Your Blockbuster may carry it, but not ALL Blockbuster Stores carry it. You can rent it through them online if you have that option. Like I said before, I found it through the library.

If it doesn't get rented, Blockbuster'll throw it out, and lets face it, there's a lack of interest in the classics nowadays.

N0Hypocrites 10-31-2004 12:37 PM

Very true. I'm in Chicago and it seems like there's a Blockbuster on every block (right next to the Starbuck's). I'm sure Netflix has it. They have a lot of good stuff on thee I've noticed.

It's a classic! I don't think anything is going to jump out and scare you too badly, :) but is a great old twisted movie. Hope you enjoy it!

Bee-otch 08-05-2006 10:50 PM

It is twisted yeah.

alkytrio666 08-06-2006 07:40 AM

Good. Twisted is good.

I cannot believe I have'nt seen this film yet.

The_Return 08-06-2006 05:13 PM

My dad always says how great this film is and how he remembers going to see it at the drive in as a kid.

As much as I want to see it, I just cant bring myself to spend $30 on a blind buy.

azathoth777 08-06-2006 06:38 PM

a great psych horror. they don't make too many good suspence horrors like it anymore.

alkytrio666 08-07-2006 04:39 PM

Just saw it.

10/10

This was a perfect movie for me. The performances were fantastic.

Easily worth $30.

Miss Olivia 08-07-2006 05:03 PM

Bette Davis scared the hell out of me in that movie.

VampiricClown 08-07-2006 05:40 PM

Heard of it, never saw it and don't really know a whole lot about it.

so expensive ?

i picked it up still sealed on laserdisc for about $5

Vodstok 08-08-2006 08:53 AM

Try this, Watch Mommy Dearest, then laugh hysterically whenever something terrible happens to joan crawford. adds a whole new layer to the experience.

"oh yeah, we found rats in the basement. " haha :)

Miss Olivia 08-08-2006 10:37 PM

LOL

Elvis_Christ 08-08-2006 10:44 PM

Great film. Must pick up a copy myself at some stage.

newb 08-09-2006 06:12 PM

I saw this when I was a young-un.....thought it was great then.

I had good taste even as a child:D

Zero 08-10-2006 03:57 PM

The only place I can find it is at Blockbuster, plus it's a 2-disc SE. Blockbuster is always overpriced to begin with for new movies (they're great for used though).

Blanche: You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I weren't still in this chair.
Jane: But cha AAH, Blanche, ya AAH in that chair.

The more I think about it.....I gotta pick this one up.

alkytrio666 08-12-2006 10:18 AM

The 2-discer is quite a gem.

Doc Faustus 08-12-2006 06:38 PM

I can't think of many films that disturbed and impressed me more. The remake with Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave wasn't bad either. I don't know if I'd be able to take watching it often enough for a DVD purchase, though. Horrifying and truly classic.

Roderick Usher 08-16-2006 03:13 PM

Just got it from netflix yesterday. I'm watching it tonight with my 9 year-old son who LOVED Strait-Jacket - another Joan Crawford jem.
