Gore SPFX Makeup

Hello, thought I'd share with you guys some of the horror/gore spfx makeup I've been working on the last couple of days. I only started doing this kind of thing a few days ago, but I have been an active artist for about 6 years. Mostly paintings and things of that sort, so I figured I'd branch out and try some special effects makeup.

This one was done with Elmers glue, toilet paper and acrylic paints. This is the first time I ever attempted any real special effects makeup art. It got pretty crusty thanks to the acrylics drying over the glue, but it still looked pretty damn cool.

I did this the following day, first time ever using liquid latex. (Thank you stores that have your halloween shit out already!) Used some blood and pigments to create depth, and finished it off with staples.

And then this one was done the same day, higher up on my leg using the same materials.

Some feedback would be pretty damn neat, cause I'm just starting out in this and I am thinking of taking some actual classes in this.

They look great! I especially like the finger!

For a first few attempts its very good. For an experienced sf person I'd say they're decent.

Excellent work! Any advice I have to offer would be to just blend in the edges more

Looks great!

Thanks, I've done a couple more so I'll just continue to post them here. I stopped by the drugstore and picked up some more cheap makeup and whatnot, so I could try and get the blending a bit more right.

This one looked half decent until I started to sew it together and ket pulling up the edges and smudging it. I wish I had of gotten a picture before hand.

And lastly, a cut across my hand I did while waiting for the mailman to show up. Poor bastard. I got him good.

For someone new to making sfx you're doing quite well. The needle in the finger looks off though. Its too obvious you made it bigger because its not your finger. While the other two look fairly real. I'm not sure how you'd go about making the finger look less thick/fake.

Your work looks pretty bitchin to me. ::cool::

I'm curious about these classes though, just because I once thought about signing up too, though I never did. Good luck to you if you ever decide to!

Yeah, that finger was rather hard to do, kept squishing it all together, having to rebuild it and then sewing it together pulled up all the edges. I stuck the needle in it so I wouldnt have to worry about one of my cats swatting it while I took the picture. Did another one tonight in between cooking dinner. Surprisingly, I was able to eat and move around without it doing much other than the occasional lift in the corners. Not surprisingly, the other folk at the table had a bit of a hard time eating their dinners.

And about the classes, the more I look into it, the more I'm deciding against it. They don't seem to offer nearly enough for the price they are asking. Most classes seemed like they were geared towards someone with absolutely no background in art, where as I have quite a background in art but very little knowledge towards the actual process of special effects. I'm sure there are classes just like what I'm looking for, but I haven't found them yet. I did however see that Sheridan College, near Toronto (big city here in Canada, for anyone living under a rock who doesn't know, it's like Canadas New York, but with a ton more crackheads) has a one year diploma course for special effects makeup. A little hefty on the price at about $30,000 (if I remember correctly) as opposed to about $600 for a couple classes, but it covers basically EVERYTHING for getting going in special effects. It definitely merits a lot more research time.

This is really nice. The part towards the wrist that is pushed up, the border between skin and no skin. But really like this one. The tendons give it quite a nice touch.
