The Last House on Cemetery Lane -- 2/10
Roseville -- 5/10 |
The Halloween Tree -- 10/10
RIP, Leonard. |
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 -- 9/10; Sequels don't come much better than this.
|
Cub -- 5.5/10; My expectations were sky-high after watching its trailer, but apart from a nice setting and some decent atmosphere, this Belgian horror offering has little else to make it anything but a one-and-done.
|
Jeepers Creepers 2 -- 8.5/10; This franchise should have at least four entries by now. Shame.
|
All Hallows Eve -- 9/10; It's The Ring, with a freaky clown and some gore. Damien Leone is a director to watch.

I Can See You 2008. Ugh. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen. It doesn't. And there's a musical number about 45 minutes in. That and a lot of other things were very unnecessary. And anything that was supposed to hint at things, just did not. Pass on this. I sat through about an hour, skipped to the end and it still didn't resolve anything(and not in a good way).

Halloween [Uncut] -- 9.5/10; I prefer it cut, as does my lady.
|
The Demon's Rook -- 8.5/10; A fine 80s throwback. Great FX work here.

Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)

Squirters Be Squirtin' -- 2/10; Wow, that was, um, squirty.

Penguins Of Madagascar (2014)
As good as I expected and with some solid jokes. Girl House (2014) Meh... |

Nowadays burning people alive is more common practice here than decapitation! ::danger:: |
Dracula: Dead and Loving It -- 6/10; When it's funny, it's hilarious; when unfunny, dreadful.

Damn good film. Alien the resurrection 8/10 |
Candy [Short] -- 7.5/10; Ah, the ol' trick-or-treater from hell motif. Never disappoints.

|
Da Sweet Blood of Jesus -- 1/10; Spike, please stop.

I couldn't make it halfway through that dull, dull garbage. |
Thrive(2011).
An explanation of the basis of a movement called Thrive. Its well explained, reasoned, etc. You hear the word Illuminati used, as well as aliens(from outer space), but its kinda slightly amusing in that most of the film is about the banking system, IMF, WHO, etc; about the AMA, alternatives to coal/gas/nuclear energy, constant surveillance, etc. . Things like that. And the solutions are practical and not hysteria based solutions either. Shrug. Worth watching, at least give it a shot after the short bit about aliens. As you watch the film it sort of stands out as to 'why put that in there'? And I'm not criticizing it or saying I believe or don't in aliens or whatever. It does sort of fit in with the ideas explained in the film. |
Jupiter Ascending -- 5/10; Interest descending.
The Boy Next Door -- 1/10; J-No. |
Under the Skin -- 7.5/10; It does wax hypnotic at times.
Balls to the Chin -- 5.5/10; Not what I was expecting, but satisfying nonetheless. |

The Omen [2006] -- 8.5/10; A well-acted, well-directed remake that was unfairly maligned and is now largely ignored. Some of the kills on display are glorious.

Just watched "Mercy" a few days ago. Really good movie, based on a short story by Stephen King. The kid displayed some pretty damn solid acting.

That's Carl from the Walking Dead in "Mercy"...
Haven't seen it, but my teenaged daughter has...of course. Carl's dreamy, apparently. BLUE RUIN... Great movie...very unexpected...lots of great acting, suspense...complete absorption into the story. Nice. And you manage, though he barely has any dialogue, to care about the main character... CATCH HELL Strange little movie with Ryan Phillipe basically playing himself...a Hollywood movie star...only, the twist is that he's been in rehab, is trying to get his shit together... When he's suddenly kidnapped and held hostage/tortured...for reasons that comes to light as the movie progresses. Not bad...some good tension...solid acting, I guess... Kind of silly execution...I mean, some fairly obvious things, like cell phone tracking, are only mentioned way later...as if the writer/director (Ryan Philippe himself) forgot that shit existed for a bit. Good overall though...check it out. |
