Fucking vows...
 

So like I said a little bit ago, the chick and I are getting married on the beginning of our 14th year together.

No big ceremony or anything, there's us and 6 people and it's just like a brief civil service and some dinner/drinks after.

The gameplan is, we'll have a "big" wedding as a re-wedding type deal 5 years after the first one. By then we should have a little 4 year old wondering around that's able to come and join in with us. He/She isn't the only reason to do that, but a cool kind've benefit and something I hope at least part of them will remember.
The other reasons - more money and preparation time.

So yeah anyways...vows...
I know that the "script" covers it, I'd just like to make them kind've personal to our lives and put some time in.
The difficulty is, while I know everything like how I feel about her and us, I also want to keep it fairly concise and not fall into soppy territory.
Having difficulty.

Also, what's the deal, am I supposed to remember them word for word?
Are cue-cards considered kind've gauche?

I don't think it would matter if you use cue-cards to remember everything. It's your wedding after all and it'll be better than fumbling and forgetting words.

Suit but not a tux as such.
The girl is actually tailoring her own.
It's relatively casual, but like no t-shirts kinda thing.
Needs to be casual enough to go drinking in after.

Here's what you gonna say. It's real easy, so you don't need any cue-cards.

"Dear Spallalala. Thank you for coming to my party. You're the best friend in the world. Cheers!" *burp in her face*

It doesn't really matter what you're saying as long as you do armpit farts during.

I seriously would not get too worked up about the vows. If you like, write something that is meaningful for both of you.

But honestly, what is said on the day means little compared to what you live for the rest of your lives. The best vows are the love and kindness that you show each other day to day.

But thinking back to my wedding... doesn't the celebrant say the vows and you repeat them? Or is that not always or even usually the case?

I was thinking the same thing as Manchester. My daughter got married this past summer, and the person performing the ceremony read the vows and had the bride and groom repeat them. I also don't think it would be gauche to have the vows written out and just read them. You could put it on a scroll.

Where do you find a scroll these days?
