R.I.P 2020

4 Attachment(s)
Here we go again, folks...another exciting year of death to come.

I'm calling Betty White & Lance Henriksen.
Sadly, I've been thinking David Attenborough lately too.

I think we're going to lose:
One 80's action star.
One 90's sitcom star.
One Under-30.
***and I think we're going to have one murder***
Time will tell.

So, first entry this year (that I've noticed) would be Syd Mead.
Known for his work on many sci-fi films as a concept artist...he has worked on just...fucking visually iconic movies, that all had stunning aesthetics in his amazing "what if?" visions of our worlds of tomorrow.

Well deserved of the title "The artist who illustrates the future", you may not know who he is, but there's NO chance you haven't seen some of his work realised on film as some of our favourite futuristic/scifi scenarios over the years.

R.I.P

The usual suspects.

Sean Connery
Clint Eastwood

Yeah, it's been a year or two since I've been. Definitely going this year, really want to meet Stephen Dorff!

These guys aren't celebrities...but they're heroes.

3 firefighters from the US that were over here in Australia to help with the fire crisis went down as their C-130 Hercules tanker (fire retardant distribution) crashed in northern NSW earlier today.
They have been confirmed to have died on site.

We have had, really, an incredibly shitty month or so with these fires...it's really, at times been like some post apocalyptic shit going on...even New Zealand could smell and see the smoke at one point.
So many people have lost their homes, animals have died in catastrophic numbers, some residents have lost their lives, as well as some of our own firefighting crew and those from abroad who have volunteered their time and safety for us.

Just when it was thought to have eased off a bit...we have smoke back...

I am sorry that this has happened for you folks in the States.
Know that your countrymen the thanks of my family...I honour these people as part of our own.
Cheers.

I heard that on the news here this morning. Very sad for their families and friends. You're right, they ARE heroes!

I'm sorry that Australia is still dealing with the fires. Praying that they're put out very, very soon.

I don’t remember hearing this one on the news or reading it online, but, John Karlen passed away on January 22. He played Willie Loomis on Dark Shadows.

Just found out about this, earlier this morning.
Never really follow sports...but I'd seen the guy make a few appearances and do interviews etc.
He seemed pretty humble, not full of himself at all.

R.I.P to him, his little girl...and I guess whoever else was involved in the crash.

isabellamor 01-26-2020 09:01 PM

Kobe Bryant is dead and it is shocking.
Death is indeed inevitable, RIP legendary Black Mamba.

I believe there were 7 other people that were killed in the crash.

I'm not really a basketball fan, but, Kobe Bryant is a hometown hero. He graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, PA, and was drafted into the NBA right after graduation. His HS coach tried to get the Philadelphia 76ers to sign him, but, they had their sights set on Allen Iverson.

I can't even imagine the pain his wife is in, losing both her husband and one of her children. And she just had a baby not long ago.

That's awesome I think I remember seeing the photo. I'm glad a few of the exploitation era stars got to have some more time in the spotlight during the grindhouse revival from a few years back. But yeah it's a damn shame she's gone now.

That would've been some cinematic gold. All those "Bruce Lei" knockoff flicks crack me up.

I was surprised to hear how old he was to be honest, something I'd never paid attention to...probably largely because in the appearances I've seen him in since the 80's and my comparatively more aware 90's, he seems to have looked about the same to me.
