Horror Tattoo Artists
edit SORRY. For some reason there was only like 3 topics showing and the search didnt work. So there actually was a tattoo topic. Sorry sorry... edit
Hey. I just thought I will tell people about a good tattoo deal that my buddy English Jonny has. And since you dont have any talk about tattoos in general, I can suggest people some other good artists, so this isnt just a shameless blug :p I myself write tattoo interviews, can you say that I write them?, well anyway. I write interviews for tattoonow.com. There are music interviews too. I just have started, so music stuff isnt up yeat. And I love tattoos. And I interviewed Jonny a while back because he is a up and coming tattoo artist who need publicity. Here is the interview. So I am more than happy to hustle for him. And Jonny didnt ask me to do this, I just listen to too much punk ;) But Jonny work in Midlands Michigan in Black Ball Tattoo and right now he has a deal on horror tattoos. I will quote him myself from another forums. Quote:
http://www.zhippo.com/BlackballTatto...l%20horror.jpg and the skeleton http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/lokiean/bos.jpg So he really has some skill and can get only better. So I am hoping that if people are in here intrested on getting horror tattoos, then he is a great choice, since now he has the discount and is eager to do this kinda stuff. Here is the info etc. Blackball Tattoo in 3126 N. Jefferson Ave. • Midland MI. (989) 835-6672 www.myspace.com/lokiean He will also propably be at this years Screamfest Horror Convention www.spookyempire.com So as promised here are some other great horror artists Paul Booth www.darkimages.com Well, I gues he is one of the house hold tattoo artist names that everyone knows. He started looong time ago and is one of the most respected artists because he has pushed tattooing forward and made it a art form that is more and more respected in serious art circles too. The grandaddy of this stuff. Bob Tyrrel http://bobtyrrell.com One of the most respected realism artists at the moment. He is so good that it hurts. One of the corner stones that other artists are judged by. Dan Henk www.danhenk.com One of the best realistic horror tattoo artists at the moment. Crazy ass detail that holds its own when put against people like Robert Hernandez or Bob Tyrrel. Like all great modern tattoo artists, he too is all over the place, with art shows and illustration for big name magazines. Paul Acker www.fixedarmy.com The new breed of horror artists but amazing none the less. This kid lives and breathes horror. Check out his interview in here Gunnar http://nohappyending.com Gunnar does New-School comic type stuff and his horror is more in the vein of the Munsters. Really skilled. There are some. If you have any questions just ask. |
And if anyone is thinking of any other type of tattoo and doesnt know a good artist, I will be happy to help :)

Cool stuff, man. I'm getting a new tattoo on Friday from Caleb at Studio City Tattoos in Studio City, Ca.
I'll post a photo of it this weekend. |

I forgot some artists that has to be mentioned. They all dont just do horror stuff, but have the same mysterious, otherwordly and folk vibe. (As I would consider horror movies, comics etc. as folk/people art) Jesse Smith www.kaoticenzymes.com One of the best and most original New-School artists out there. He has a wicked fun vibe in his work. Little Shaun Of The Dead and Corpse Bride. People who play too much video games tattoo like this. Uncle Allan www.uncleallan.com Artsy Neo-Traditionalism. He has this weird Twin Peaks/Mounted animals vibe in his work. Kinda spooky death aura. Electrick Picks Ghost Recon sniper buddy. Electrick Pick www.electricpick.com Uncle Allans co-conspirator. Has great mix of comic books and architecture in his work. He defines New-School with his killer robots and take no prisoners scientist babes. Joshua Carlton www.joshuacarlton.com The master of so called dreamworld realism. One of the best examples of how tattoo artists are just that, artists. He paints just like he tattoos and vise versa. Things that are make believe, look like they really exist. Rudy Fritsch www.originalclassictattoo.com Vibrant and artistic Neo-Traditonalism that has this cool 50´s B-Horror Movie vibe in them. And a little bit of The Toxic Avenger and fancy poster art thrown in. |
I adore the work of Uncle Allan - fantastic.
I seriously thought I was going to make it as an actor, so I held off on the sleeves I wanted soooo badly. Now I'm married with kids and only have a couple of tattoos and a pierced nipple to show for my lifelong fetishizing of the art of body modification. I love the sugar-skull design (that my wife created) that I'm getting done on Friday, but I'm already looking forward to the next one...the upper arm will be a half-sleeve of swirling ghosts from around the world... A Banshee, a Japanese ghost, La Llorona, and anything else I can come up with. |
The best tattoos are the onest that mean something, as the one your wife has designed :) Do you have a artist picked out for the half sleeves? If the La Llorona is as the movie, that is B&G, and if you really want to go all out (as the top of the class), someone like Kore Flatmo would be amazing

I've yet to find a tattooist in the UK who can do a HR Giger *Alien* for me.
I'm considering a top of thigh to ankle one. The tattooists you mention are all fantastic but they are thousands of miles away from me!! :( |
The skull is great man! It has a womans touch on it definetly :)

Nothing to do at work, so more groove artists :)
Nick Baxter www.nickbaxter.com One of the most sought after artists at the moment. I would describe him as a individul folk artist. His views challenge and courage people to make there own history, there own folk history individually. The label is a combination of his high end custom stuff and his sometimes HC political views, which include anarchism and vegetarianism, and the side that wishes for a different, better, future for all of us. And hopes that we dont accept the norms. Boris hwww.boristattoo.zalaszam.hu Boris is one of the most respected artists out there. Crazy, deep and ultra painterly fantasy and horror surrealism and everything in between. Were european aura in them. Old castles and doom. Cory Kruger www.krugertattoos.com His tattoos his a deep and rich God like aura in them. And also similar to the more realistic superman cartoons (edit. Alex Ross) that are majestic and full of color. S. Victor Whitmill www.paradoxstudios.com Morbid and very dark style. H.R Giger comes to mind and also has a fetish aspect to it. Bit of cyberpunk also thrown in. Grotex version of the Matrix mixed with Edgar Allan Poe. DJ Minor www.kantreed.com Zombies and dead girls Timmi Mensah www.timmimensah.com Graffiti styled creepy stuff. |
Heres a new one that English Jonny pulled out of his hat. Took aprx. 3 hours! And considering the size, quality and color it has...WOW. And the customer didnt even pay anywhere near an(sp?) arm and leg for it. Heres the Cheshire Cat

Really good news for the people in Houston, Texas. World class artist Nate Beavers, with his friend Jason Ramirez, have opened a new shop (it has been open for a better part of a month) I-45 Ink in 9305 Gulf Frwy.
www.myspace.com/i45ink I just interviewed Nate about his new shop and it has a great list of artists working in there and quest spots that will bring big names to the shop, are coming too. Nate himself just won the best of the day (In saturday) at Hell City Tattoo fest this past weekend. And considering that its PACKED with the best in the world, that´s not a small feat. Here is the tattoo. http://a919.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...4dd1bcf1ee.jpg Then there is Rick Clark who also enjoys doing portraits and animals (as does Nate), but if you are thinking in terms of horror tattoos, he (along side with Nate) can rock the heaven out of them! Heres a tattoo that Rick has done. http://a716.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...365096e7b3.jpg Then there is the smooth B&G stuff from Jason Ramirez http://a978.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...0ddd1618e9.jpg Omar http://a390.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...111d3cb16d.jpg and George with his Cholo inspired stuff http://a36.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/...3ee9e7a13b.jpg And then there is also Buck who deos crazy color stuff. But hes example pic will be in another post, because this one allready has 5 pics. All and all the guys at I-45 Ink are talented and really easy to get along. And they will make shure that every last one of clients that they have, will feel like they are welcome to come in, and are treated with respect and enthusiasm towards there tattoo. So if you are in that area, be shure to check them out. I will post the link to a interview that I did with Nate later on when its up on tattooNOW. |

Good ol´Jonny has whipped out two more tattoos. Other one is a in progress backpiece thats all custom work. Good cartoon vibe going on in it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...n/backbang.jpg Then other one is a dead zombie girl that is bright as HELL! And you can see Jonnys own little background touch in it, which he has used in couple of tattoos. Finding hes own voice little by little. Exiting. And I have no idea from where this cutey pie is from? Anybody? Heres the tat. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/lokiean/kid.jpg Blackball Tattoo in 3126 N. Jefferson Ave. • Midland MI. (989) 835-6672 www.myspace.com/lokiean |
Jonny has a great offer for people who are serious about tattoos. Here is what he says
OK. so i want to do a full back to add to my portfolio. Ive never done one. And im only going to offer it once. I wanna do a full back fantasy or horror at 40% off. Just to do the damn thing. Yeah i know 40% IS KINDA NUTS. But whoever ends up with it will only be coming in ever month or two for a session. So im not really putting myself out there much. If anyones interested message me. I plan on doing it in 6 hour sessions. I wanna do full color with negative shading. Something big and fancy. *shrug* This is not unsual if people are thinking that. Many artists offer great deal´s when they want to build up there portfolio, or just try out new things. Joshua Carlton (www.joshuacarlton.com) infact just had a competition for a free tat, because he wanted to explore more color realism, so he just said that the person with the best idea gets it free. So if you are thinking of a back piece, send Jonny a message. 40% off is a lot :) Blackball Tattoo in 3126 N. Jefferson Ave. • Midland MI. (989) 835-6672 www.myspace.com/lokiean |
As promised, here is the interview with Nate Beavers. Great guy and really down to earth. Comments are welcome.

Here is a artist whos stuff I have been liking (just at this moment actually)
Taylor Cort Only 24 years old but has a buckets worth of talent. There is a strong heavy metal vibe in his work. People who are fans of album sleeves from bands like Iron Maiden will totally like his style. Also its totally cool to see him do custom stuff (dragons etc) that you mostly see other artist just reproduce from paintings that people like Vallejo do. Thats a nice little edge that he has. And they actually look good, unlike some of the "fantasy" stuff that you see. Hes is more painterly and not so much the flash art type stuff that you see from the 90´s. If I would be thinking of custom fantasy stuff (not totally my thing, but you never know), he would be high on that list. And then he can do also that painterly Neo-Traditional stuff (The bastartized version of sailor tattoos etc). And of course horror stuff. (Lost Boys=fuck yeah!) You can catch him in Liquid Dragon Tattoo, Asheville, North Carolina US www.myspace.com/taylorcort |
Wow. This gives me some ideas for my first tattoo.

He tattoos in www.oldecitytattoo.com You cant go wrong with others from that shop either. Brian Murphy does good painterly stuff Hope it helps :) |
English Jonny has again been productive. He just told that he has arrived Florida for the annual Screamfest, where he will be tattooing. I think he has one open slot if someone is thinking about a tattoo. Here are some of his recent ones.
He told that with this one he tried a little different colors to make it in to its own beast. http://a144.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...1de78d0807.jpg Medusa tattoo from a pic that client brought in, little spiced up http://a111.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...e17a151a26.jpg And here is all custom baby on the foot http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...an/babycop.jpg And finally one for the Irish http://a873.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...d3c698eac8.jpg He is progressing in a good pace. More clients the better the gets all the time. Not that he is bad now ;) Blackball Tattoo in 3126 N. Jefferson Ave. • Midland MI. (989) 835-6672 www.myspace.com/lokiean And Screamfest Horror Convention www.spookyempire.com And if anyone has tattoo question´s, I will be clad to help out. |

I can't wait to get my next tattoo. I have a comic book artist designing portraits of Poe and Lovecraft for me and after that I'm getting Ghastly Graham's versions of The Crypt Keeper, The Vault Keeper and The Old Witch from EC Comic's Haunt of Fear |
Won't all those tattoos limit your opportunities as an actor?
|
Quote:
his acting might be doing that already :p |

I've held off on tattoos for a long time thinking they might limit me as an actor. But it's not like people are breaking down the door. If I had been true to my desires, I would have full sleaves by now. And I'm getting old. No use waiting around. And who knows, maybe I'll get typecast as "tattoo guy" and finally get some work! |
just fucking with you .. i could never act.
i always wanted to be a romero zombie ... untill i was on set with a bunch of romero zombies .. and quickly realized i could never do that. i'd be laughing my ass off ruining every take until my ass got booted off. |
