Comfort in Horror Movies

It may not make sense, but some people with anxiety disorders–myself included—love nothing more than calming down with a terrifying film. I talked to researchers to find out why.

I guess my amygdala is desensitized to horror movies. I rarely jump from jump scares and never feel dread or apprehension watching horror movies.

Good article. Makes a lot of sense. I have pretty bad anxiety and horror movies always seem to settle me. Never really thought about it though.

Is it strange that I find a lot of 80's horror films cozy?

I don't think so. I feel the same way.

Same here. They're timid in a lot of ways compared to current films.

Same for me. 50's era stuff like Giant Gila Monster and Tarantula are like celluloid comfort food.

Good article, Boss.

Most blacknwhite films make me feel calm and cozy, including b/w horror films.

I find The Thing and Alien to be good chillout horror.
