Paranormal Activity

I've only seen the first one. I did not like it. Stupid people doing stupid things. Some of the effects were alright.

Are any of the sequels worth watching?

I know it gets a lot of hate, but I love the first one. It was absolutely brilliant. Unlike many modern horror films, it utilizes genuine suspense rather than relying on cheap jump scares. Of course, many modern audiences do not have much of an attention span, in what I have observed. Of the sequels, the second and third were good, but not as good as the first by a long shot. Any after that are just stupid. The fifth does not even try to be scary.

I loved all 5

It's way underrated

For me, Paranormal Activity 1 along with The Blair Witch Project and The Grudge were the most terrifying movies I've ever watched. Like ever! And trust me, I've watched a few! I don't like to spoil my experience so that's why I always watch my horror movies alone!

I appreciate the attempt, and somewhat enjoyed the first one. My biggest complaint is the predictability. I mean, yeah, ghosts/demons/things move stuff and shake lights and bang around. That's what they do... in every movie... ever. Paranormal Activity worked because it felt realistic, it worked on the same level Blair Witch worked when it came out. I remember when Blair Witch was being teased, it played like it was real, they had investigative web sites and gave it a life. Then I went and saw it the night it came out, at midnight. I was so disappointed. It was fun, but not scary. That's how I felt about Paranormal Activity, fun, but not scary.

The best horror franchise running today.

That's not saying much...

I am excited for the new one though. It looks like it might be pretty good.

I liked all of them, however, I don't know if I will actually ever buy them.

I honestly don't understand the hatred this movie receives. It was the same thing with The Blair Witch Project. The hatred of the sequels, I can sort of understand, what with the milking of something that worked in previous years instead of pushing innovation. I get that. But it's clear the first of the series were not meant for the massive exposure that they wound up getting, and for the modest budgets they had, they did damn well.

A lot of the gripe they get seems to stem from the fact that you never see the demon/witch/monster, too, and I honestly find that to be the braver approach. Am I the only one of the opinion that the true art of horror is in the anticipation? That instant gratification attitude is what stuck us with so many crappy slasher porns that were such a disservice to the genre.

Just saying.

Not a great fan of the series but yeah....PA 1, 3, Tokyo Night & Marked Ones were fairly entertaining, IMO.
