What would you guys say are the top 5 or so zombie movies. I've recently seen 28 days later and day of the dead, and im hooked. What would you say are the best ones to see?

XFeaRX 04-08-2004 08:10 PM

Not in any particular order

1. Night of the Living Dead
2. Dawn of the Dead
3. Day of the Dead
4. Return of the Living Dead
5. Dawn of the Dead (Remake)

you need some italian..

HappyCamper 04-09-2004 03:58 AM

i'd have to say that the best and my favorite zombie movies are:

Night of the Living Dead
Day of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead (Original)
Zombie (Italian, Lucio Fulci)
28 Days later (even though they aren't really zombies)
Dead Alive (Brain Dead)

oh yeah and of course Dawn of the Dead (Remake)

cheebacheeba 04-09-2004 06:15 AM

Would "versus" count??

radio667 04-09-2004 07:07 AM

All Italian Zombie Films are Great ...maybe for all the wrong reasons , but they are still Great ;) !!!

HappyCamper 04-09-2004 07:24 AM

i've heard about 'Versus' what's it about?

HappyCamper 04-09-2004 07:28 AM

yeah 'Zombie 2' aka: Zombie

i saw the first tiime at the Florida Film Festival. it was awesome! a little slow compared to films like '28 Days Later' but still a great movie! SPOILER:

i loved the splintered wall - eyeball scene!

radio667 04-09-2004 07:48 AM

Yup - Amazing Scene . That and the group of Zombies just feeding on the ( eye splintered ) woman ...tons of blood and flesh everywhere !!!

troymello 04-11-2004 06:02 PM

Nightmare City

I have to mention "Nightmare City" (a/k/a "City of the Walking Dead."

The acting was bad and the zombies looked like they were made up with mud and corn flakes... but it was a fun flick. It moved along at a good pace.

Gore fest gerb 04-12-2004 05:33 AM

Try a German film called Zombie 90.

Bub 04-12-2004 05:48 AM

Again, in no order but all top class :

Versus (counts in my book, dead people fighting, great movie)
dawn, day, and night of the dead
Zombie flesh eaters
The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue
City of the living dead (great drill scene)
The Beyond
Evil Dead 1+2
Junk
Return of the Living Dead 1 + 3
Dead Alive (Peter Jackson sillyness)
Dawn of the dead remake for the first 10 mins

Mike_the_killer 04-12-2004 06:04 AM

1. Night of the living dead
2. 28 days later
2. Resident evil

massacre man 04-12-2004 11:07 AM

would evil dead count (deadites)?

launch 05-05-2004 02:26 PM

Versus is pretty sweet. I may never get tired of watching it.

I'd like to recommend a little gem of the zombie genre from Italy called Zeder. It's not a typical horror film and the zombies aren't Romero-esque, but it is a damn intriguing movie.

orangestar 05-05-2004 02:29 PM

Night of the Living Dead by far
Dawn of the Dead

Okay I dont really like zombie movies (and I havent seen Day OTD) so those are it for me.

Sam The Egg 05-05-2004 07:02 PM

Dawn of the Dead
Versus (Zombies shooting at people GANGSTA-STYLE~!OMG!!!)

Yeah, once I get the 2-disc Versus set, I'm gonna be watching that thing constantly.

great film, especially on a 2 disc special edition.

Devil7511 05-16-2004 04:21 PM

Great fucking lists everybody and I've seen The Evil Dead debated so much on if it's a zombie flick or not that I say it's your call on that one. Here's my top zombie flick:

1. Night of the Living Dead (68)
2. Night of the Creeps
3. Dawn of the Dead (78)
4. Day of the Dead
5. Dawn of the Dead (04)
6. Return of the Living Dead
7. Resident Evil
8. Zombi
9. Night of the Living Dead (90)
10. Return of the Living Dead 2

death_to_all 05-16-2004 05:40 PM

Yeah, resident evil is a cool movie. Not really scary though but has some pretty cool zombies in it. I find that Night of the Living Dead is pretty pathetic, it's not scary and low budget. Well I think that Dawn of the Dead the newer one is cool and kind of scary depends on which way you look at it.

you got to remember - night of the living dead is a "ground zero " movie ..by that i mean there was nothing out before to compare it too - it sparked a whole different style of horror film making that has been going for about 30 years now ( not bad at all ) ..in a way you can say that night gave birth to the "modern " monster movie . - of course now its a bit dated , but back in the day - this was a *&^% scarey and bloody movie with shades of the vietnam war ( which was going on at the time ) thrown in for good measure .

death_to_all 05-16-2004 06:58 PM

Yeah I suppose you're right if you look at it that way. In my parents day The War of the Worlds was scary, I saw that movie and didn't see anything. It's the same with Friday the 13th. Old movies strike when they first come out depending on the person and so forth.

very true ...i remember talking to a guy in his late 60's and he told me . growing up - he was &*^ scared of the balck and white movies - wolfman and frankenstien ... even though they are classic movies - i think today. we would be hard pressed to call then horror movies - much less scarey ;)

orangestar 05-16-2004 07:59 PM

NOTLD will always be my favorite horror movie because it was so groundbreaking and scared the hell out of people back then. First real gore, first black leading man in a horror, its was just so revolutionary. I love it

feral cat 05-17-2004 08:49 AM

DawnOTD(Oringinal)
Cemetary Man aka Dellamorte delamore
Close Encounters Of The Spooky Kind
DayOTD
The Living Dead Of Manchester Morge

Versus is ok, but its pretty flawed in some ways I don't rate it quite as high as evryone else seems to! Wild Zero is also worth a look as its another crazy Japanese take on the Zombie Genre!!!

Great and wonderfully "Bad" FIlm ... you can not beat the way the director throws a topless scene ( seemly out of nowhere ) in the middle of an ocean of mindless Zombie violence - a master stroke if ever i saw one ;)

death_to_all 05-17-2004 07:37 PM

That's good. Has anyone seen Hell Asylum? It isn't old but worth a look at.

Devil7511 05-17-2004 10:45 PM

Heard of Hell Asylum, I heard it was pretty gory shit and very intense.

Devil7511 05-17-2004 10:52 PM

Also, for the NOTLD 68 talk, I was very young when I say it for the first time(11) and at the time it still had that grainy picture deal so it freaked the living hell out of me but it also got me hooked on horror movies for the first time ever. It turned me into a zombie loving horror movie freak that I am nowadays, lol. Actually, when I say it for the first time my young mind couldn't comprehend what was real and what wasen't so I thought NOTLD was fucking real. I bet there's thousands of different stories in why NOTLD has revolutionized the horror industry, this is just one of them.

cheebacheeba 05-18-2004 02:26 AM

Hey.
I dunno exactly what this is, but my supplier has a series of 6 dvds on their online list called "ginuea pig", the first one was called "the devils experiment" I think it's meant to be an asian film, but other than that I havent any idea what the fuck it's supposed to be about...

Anyone?

Interesting hearing you're perspective on NOTLD...I've often wondered...
