number one
If you *had to* what would be your number one comic book of all time? Tough choice....

Good point. er... how about single story that can be collated as a TBP - and let's include graphic novels in that as well.
|
Alan Moore-From Hell
The Watchmen V For Vendetta The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol.1 and 2 Jim O'Barr-The Crow Frank Miller-Batman:Year One (all)Sin City Dan Brereton-The Nocturnals:Black Planet Neil Gaiman-Sandman(all) Robert Kirkman-The Walking Dead TPB's 1-4 That's all for now. |
that's not one!
After much thinking and re-reading, I think I'll have to plump for Maus. It just blew me away and affected me like nothing else. |

maus was great. . . . as for me its a toss-up between Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns. Watchmen is more complex and worth repeat readings - plus way longer. . . but emotionally i found DKR more absorbing and affecting.

I have to make a confession.
I'm pretty new to the world of comic books, but have been voraciously devouring everything people pass my way, and since the beginning Watchmen and DKR have been mentioned over and over and over. So I read them. And I wasn't blown away. Sorry. I can see how they would have rocked everything at the time (like seeing Star Wars when it was first released) but now, like Star Wars, they're kinda, "Well, yeah, they're pretty good, I guess, but I've seen/read better." Do you know what I mean? I hope this isn't heresy, but I just found them both a little bitty, jumpy, and not particularly cohesive as a whole. Although there were undoubted moments of genius in both. |
Preacher is pretty bad ass. Vertigo is a pretty decent label.
and obvioulsy, Steve Dillians and Garth Enniss' Welcome Back, Frank is by far the best Punisher work ever done. |
I agree, the preacher is the best graphic novels ever.
the punishers cool the goon is ultimately the funniest |
To the choir...
Yeah... PREACHER is a GREAT friggin' series... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Other honorable mentions include THE WALKING DEAD, THE CROW, HELLBOY, 100 BULLETS, almost anything by Alan Moore, FABLES, and Y: THE LAST MAN. If I had to pick just one book, though, I think it would have to be LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN... what a read. (Volume One was awesome... Volume Two... whoa.) SINcerely, Dirk Manning |

I'm such an idiot I completely forgot Hellboy(thanks Dirk)I first caught a miniseries in DHP "The Wolves of St. Augustine",been hooked ever since! And Dark Horse's Alien vs. Predator series should get a nod aswell. |
Not sure.
Used to read Sgt. Rock when I was a kid. |
top 5:
1) Watchmen 2) The Dark Knight Returns 3) Sandman: Season of Mists 4) Sandman: Preludes & Nocturns 5) Sin City: The Hard Goodbye if Uzumaki counts, it's #3 |
Astro City.
The art, the varying storyline, the depth, the dialogue. All there. The third series wasn't GREAT, but overall the title has remained pretty consistant. Y - The last man is pretty great for an ongoing title also. |
The spirals... they consume...

I questioned whether or not Uzumaki counts because it's technically 3 books
|

Ah, I could never pick just one... So I'll give a top five.
1. Sandman 2. Blade of the Immortal 3. Transmetropolitan 4. Hellblazer 5. Berserk |
A top five:
1- Watchman 2- Dark Knight Returns 3- Sin City 4- 30 Days Of Night 5- Panorama Of Hell |

Have you read Lucifer? If so,did it get any better after the year 2001 and when and where did it end? (I am just assuming it ended because I have not seen it around, even back issues, in years) On Topic 1.) Sandman 2.) Black Orchid 3.) Anything Alan Moore did....Ever |
