Cable Issue 1.

SamCostello 05-11-2008 07:38 AM

Smuggling Spirits, Book 1: by Ben Fisher and Mike Henderson. A graphic novel about a man and a boy running alcohol during Prohibition, except in this world, there are demons and monsters everywhere. Decently interesting, but a little raw, I think. These creators will probably bear watching in the future.

The_Return 05-11-2008 06:33 PM

Transmetropolitan, Vol. 3: Year of the Bastard

Man, this series just keeps getting better...can't wait to pick up a couple more collections.

Doc Faustus 05-15-2008 06:16 PM

MPD Psycho
All I can say is wow.

I do that just about every other week. Right now it's Sandman: A Doll's House

Irecently got nostalgic for these cheap horror comics I read in the 70s so I bought a bunch of them on Ebay. The first one got here today. These were reprints of pre-code Horror comics, but not the "high-class" EC stuff- these were crudely drawn and told tales of disgusting import. I loved them for their crass cheapness and I'm still loving them as I read through them again. Definitely some of the most lurid covers ever printed.

Just keeps getting better, eh?

Everytime I read it, I take away something new. One of my all-time favourite GN's, no question.

Phalanx 06-03-2008 04:25 AM

Just one I thought I'd mention...
MARVELs "1985".
Grab a copy if you want something "different".

The_Return 06-14-2008 04:14 PM

Going through Hush again...such a great story.

I really need to read more of Loeb's stuff, because this one os incredibly well written. Should track down Long Halloween before Dark Knight comes out, I suppose...

_____V_____ 06-14-2008 08:29 PM

Long Halloween is a definite MUST-read.

One of the best Batman series to have ever come out.

So I've heard...I just keep debating whether I should read it before or after Dark Knight comes out. Supposedly Long Halloween was a huge influence on it, and I dont know if I should check it out before hand, or wait until after so I dont ruin plot twists and stuff.

Doc Faustus 06-17-2008 01:06 PM

i second that. Long Halloween is awesome, as is Dark Victory and When in Rome really surprised me, too. Loeb is a great Batman writer.

I'm starting to get into Swamp-Thing a bit, Alan Moore's run.

I really wish I was a filmmaker. I'd love to be able to make a film out of these. (I'm aware there is already a Swamp-Thing film.)

I'm sure you could do a far better job than Wes Craven did...hell, pretty much anyone could.

World War Hulk.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Raising Cain Issues 1 -3.

The_Return 07-12-2008 07:01 PM

Finally got around to reading The Long Halloween...just as amazing as I'd expected. I really loved the whole Holiday killer bit, great plot device and made for a badass ending.

Jeph Loeb is a fantastic Batman writer - this and Hush are some of my favourite stories. I'm going to have to make a point of reading more of his stuff (like I said a page or two back, haha).

SamCostello 07-13-2008 03:04 PM

Yesterday, I finished Good-Bye, by Yoshihiro Tatsumi – Another installement in this series of reprints of Tatsumi’s bruising, nihilistic slice-of-life short comics. If you like this kind of darkness, you’ll love this. I did.

Re-reading The Death Of Superman.

Doc Faustus 07-16-2008 01:58 PM

I read that so many times when I was a kid. I regret not purchasing a bloody S t-shirt when they came out, the new bloody S doesn't feel right.

Yeah, it would be pretty rad to have one of those shirts.

Doc Faustus 07-16-2008 05:56 PM

I thought Knightfall, which happened around the same time as Death of Superman was better. Why did Bane have to become a slab of meat after that? He had so much potential.

Geddy 07-16-2008 06:02 PM

Haven't read Knightfall, from what I've seen looks pretty good, I'll check it out.

Geddy 07-18-2008 08:33 AM

JLA: A League Of One.

missmacabre 07-20-2008 01:35 PM

buffy season 8.

Phalanx 07-21-2008 12:47 AM

If you like BS8, definitely check out Angel: After the Fall, IMO a waaaay better continuation.

missmacabre 07-21-2008 01:07 PM

I'll add that to my ever expanding list. I wanna try to tackle Fables and that may take a while. along with a trillion other suggestions hehe.

Check out Daredevil: Yellow if you get a chance.

It's funny, I continuously need to be reminded by runs like the Kevin Smith and Frank Miller Daredevils that Daredevil doesn't suck. For some reason it never sticks. Then I read those guys and for the next four or five days I find myself thinking "Daredevil rocks!" I'll check out Yellow.

massacre man 07-22-2008 06:14 AM

I just got Hulk: Gray and I'm gonna read that at some point today.

_____V_____ 07-23-2008 08:19 AM

Batman: The Long Halloween #01.

TDK reminded me so much of this, I decided to pick it up for yet another re-read.

psychooralien 07-23-2008 11:54 AM

Batman: Face the Face

missmacabre 07-24-2008 01:57 PM

I went to get the watchmen out from the library again. I take it out once every few months when I get a craving for it, and seeing as the lesbian librarian ordered it specifically for me, it's always there. No one has ever had an interest in reading it until the trailer came out. Now I'm on a waiting list and don't get it until Aug. 11. So mad.
