The Collector (2009) and The Collection (2012) are also pretty solid, and have continuing storylines/characters. A third one will be coming out. All from the same director so if you've yet to check them out, might be worth a look.
I enjoyed them.

No offense, but don't waste your time with "It Follows" Not scary at all. Same with Babadook. WAY overrated.

Here are some that I found REALLY frightening:

Bonehill Road
Blood Moon
Man VS.
Dark Was the Night
Rawhead Rex
The Ritual

Bone Tomahawk, pure horror that's a total suprise when it happens.
Triangle, I love this film, but wouldn't really class it as horror.

It sounds like you want a slasher but I would have thought their time was over.

It seems obvious to suggest that Friday the 13th reboot but it wasn't half bad.

Hereditary is great

Also check out Haunting of Hill House - a series on Netflix. Pretty good if you like Conjuring type stuff

Well, IMO, the greatest horror films were made first in that whole Dracula-Wolfman-Frankenstein era and then in the Vertigo-Birds Hitchcock era and then in the 1970s-1990s Leatherface-Michael-Jason-Freddy era.

After that, there's a huge dip with a bunch of random and mostly mediocre spook/scare-flicks like Candyman, Carrie II, Mothman (etc.).

However, there're are a few gems even after or somewhat before 2010 that don't remind us tasteless corn scare films like I Spit on Your Grave (anyone seen that one?), such as Urban Legend (LINK), It (LINK), and Jeepers Creepers (LINK).

I'd recommend avoiding 21st Century pure disasters such as the horrible and shocking Bloody Murder (LINK) and the equally-morbid if not as 'bizarre' Cucuy (LINK).

They should make a definitive horror-cinema guidebook, right??

Good luck!

i dont find any horror movie scary ..not since i was a kid.

but i find that some are effective ..

Heredity - as someone said above ..
and by the same filmmaker - Midsommer

Session 9 is a movie i suggest to everyone

bone tomahawk is just a great movie overall .. best dialogue of any horror movie ever

i dont judge horror by if it will scare me .. i judge it like i do any other genre .. is it well written, well made, well acted, well edited, well scored.
does it make me give a shit about the characters .... does it have one iota of originality ..

that eliminates 95% of all horror movies. but there are stiil some gems out there.

I seem to recall this 80's movie with a girl from space...and two guys helped her escape her pursuers...I think there was motorcycles involved.
