Do you think women are just objects of the male gaze in slasher films where they are there simply to be wacthed and killed?

If it was a chauvinistic thing, I think there would be more random lesbian orgies being interrupted by an axe-wielding maniac than some stupid camp thing. Then again, there probably already is a Softcore Horror Porn genre out there... Probably going to be on that Horror Network late at night when it comes out next year.

I think women definitely have been objects for the most part in any movie, horror even more so. But there are some cool female characters and even more will come as culture gets more enlightened. Of course these movies (in fact pretty much all media) are made to appeal to young men in our society. I think female fans have to be more vocal to show we are part of the audience and demand quality. That's one of the reasons I joined this forum;)

Ive noticed that women more often than not end up being the heroes in such movies. Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, All the Freddies, several Fridays, Night of the demons ets... Whil I think that some of the females are there just to expose some breasts Horror winds up empowering the female role in the process

There are some pretty interesting academic essays about the female role in horror films. Usually about 'the final girl'.
Here's one of many related posts.
