Like my best movie in a series thread, but the opposite. Which movie in each of the following Horror series do you feel is the worst in their respective series? Remakes, prequels and crossovers count in any series that has them. They don't have to be movies you dislike, just because you consider them the worst in their series.

---

Friday The 13th

Halloween

A Nightmare On Elm Street

Saw

Scream

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Alien

Predator

Phantasm

Evil Dead

Hellraiser

Child's Play

Final Destination

---

IMO the worst in each:

Friday The 13th - Jason X

Halloween - Resurrection

A Nightmare On Elm Street - Freddy's Dead

Saw - Saw III

Scream - Scream 3

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Next Generation

Alien - Alien Vs. Predator

Predator - Alien Vs. Predator

Phantasm - Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead

Evil Dead - Original (still love it, just enjoy the sequels more)

Hellraiser - Not seen enough to fairly say.

Child's Play - Seed Of Chucky

Final Destination - 4

I don't dislike some of these movies, I just like them the least in their series.

Friday The 13th-The remake but besides that I'll say Part 3

Halloween-haven't seen the remakes so I'll go with Halloween Resurrection

A Nightmare On Elm Street-not seen the remake so Freddy VS Jason but besides that in case it doesn't count-Freddy's Dead

Saw-Saw 3D

Scream-Scream 4

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre-The remake I think that counts in this instance

Alien-Alien VS Predator 2

Predator-Predators

Phantasm-Phantasm 3

Evil Dead-Arny Of Darkness

Hellraiser-HellWorld

Child's Play-Bride of chucky killed the series for me so I've never seen Seed Of Chucky

Final Destination-Not seen Part 5 yet so Part 4

F13th - Jason X & JGTH
Halloween: Halloween 3 is hands down the WORST of the series
NOES: The remake and pt.5 are a tie.
Saw: I don't like any of them.
Scream: pt.4
TCM: Next Generation
Alien: I've only seen the first 2 and AvsP so I'd say AvsP.
Predator: Same as above.
Phantasm: pt.3
Evil Dead: Not possible. LOVE all 3!
Hellraiser: Pretty much everything after pt.3
Child's Play: Seed of Chucky.
Final Destination: I don't care for the series at all.

Friday The 13th- Probably Jason takes Manhattan

Halloween- Resurrection

A Nightmare On Elm Street- Any of the many sequels, excluding FvsJ. The remake is also terrible.

Saw- All of them besides 1 and 5 (I liked 5)

Scream- Love all 4 of them, Scream 4 was refreshing in my opinion. I'll say 2.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Don't really care, this series is boring and filled with stupid people, on hero and villain side.

Alien- Resurrection was a joke.

Predator- Only care for Predator 1 and Predators. Predator 2 was pretty boring.

Phantasm- Never got into it

Evil Dead- Army of Darkness

Hellraiser- Any after 2.

Child's Play- Terrible series

Final Destination- 5 was horrible. I'd say 4 was horrible too but it had that epic escalator part.

Friday The 13th- Jason X.

Halloween- Part 4 and/or the Rob Zombie remakes. I went back to see what Resurrection was about and I'm actually not sure if I've seen it or not.

A Nightmare On Elm Street- Freddy vs. Jason.

Saw- I don't like this series.

Scream-Part 4. I liked it but it's definitely the weakest in the series.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- The remake.

Alien- N/A- haven't seen enough of them to choose.

Predator- N/A- haven't seen enough of them to choose.

Phantasm- It's been forever since I've watched these movies so I can't remember.

Evil Dead- Army of Darkness.

Hellraiser- It's been forever since I've watched these movies so I can't remember.

Child's Play- Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.

Final Destination- I don't like this series.

Moral of the story: I have a lot of movies that I need to go back and rewatch.

Friday The 13th- Jason Goes To Hell

Halloween- Part 3 or 6, probably 3 just because it should have not been named Halloween

A Nightmare On Elm Street- Freddy's Dead

Saw- Saw 3D, so much CGI and bad acting

Scream- Love them all but the 3rd was worst for me

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Part 3, yes I liked the next generation better than part 3. Part 3 was just so dumb and there was only 2 deaths in the entire film... LAME!

Alien- Alien Resurrection, I don't count AVP films since it's a mixture of 2 franchises

Predator- Predator 2

Phantasm- Only seen the first 1

Evil Dead- Army of Darkness, love the cabin in both previous films

Hellraiser- Only seen first 5 so I will say Part 5

Child's Play- Seed of Chucky

Final Destination- The Final Destination (part 4)

I'm the opposite New Nightmare is great IMO. Best of the series aside from the original and the third film. I like how they turned Freddy back into a menacing character rather than the comical version in the majority of the sequels.

I don't get the hate for Diary tbh. I really enjoyed it and would rank it ahead of Land as far as his new trilogy goes. Survival was definitely the worst for me but I wouldn't mind seeing it again and giving it another chance.

Bit of an older thread, but I was thinking of worst episode of a Horror anthology series per season for some variety.

I'm going to exclude remakes (If you were wondering, I would rate the remakes of the slasher series's to be the worst in their respective series, i.e. Friday the 13th, Halloween, and A Nightmare on Elm Street).

Friday the 13th- Part 2- I liked many of the films in this series, but this was my least favorite, although it was not an easy decision.

Halloween III- It was not bad as a film, but felt like a rip off because there was no Myers

A Nightmare on Elm Street- Part II: Freddy's Revenge by far (A New Nightmare was brilliant, I loved that movie, almost as much as the original).

Saw- Any after II (The first was brilliant and the second one was pretty good, but not near as great as the first)

Scream- Scream 3, but I loved all the films after one almost equally.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- I'll include the remake on this one. I consider the Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning to be my least favorite, since I have not seen the sequels to the original or the sequel/remake thing they released January of this year

Alien- Alien Resurrection

Predator- Predators

Phantasm- Have only seen the first one

Evil Dead- -tough call- but I guess I will choose Evil Dead II, but honestly the two sequels are equal, but the first is definitely the best in the series.

Child's Play- Child's Play 3

Final Destination- The Final Destination- this film was cheesy, cliche, and had bad acting, so it was quite terrible. Generally, this is a great series and one of the most original of the last decade, except this movie.

Hellraiser- Hellseeker- actually a number of the sequels were pretty good, especially III and Inferno with II being pretty good.

As far as Diary of the Dead, it was a great movie, perhaps my all-time favorite zombie movie.

Friday The 13th - Jason X

Halloween - Halloween 4 and above. Really only like I and II and I respect 3 as seperate from the series.

A Nightmare On Elm Street - Dream Master(4)

Saw - SAW V

Scream - Scream 3

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning

Alien - Alien: Resurrection

Predator - Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem

Phantasm - Oblivion

Evil Dead - Army of Darkness- love them all but this one wasn't the best

Hellraiser - Hellseeker

Child's Play - Seed of Chucky

Final Destination - honestly hate all of them

Friday The 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan: Just terrible!

Halloween: Anything after part 3. They're all equally bad

A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Sort of funny to watch, but it was a complete disaster.

Saw 2: Most unlikable characters ever assembled in any movie

Scream 2: Any movie with Jerry O'Connell can't be good

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III Leatherface: Such a disappointment follow up to the classic Part 2

Alien Resurrection: This movie had zero thought put in to it! The script was nothing more than a bunch of silly predictable catchphrases strung together as dialogue. And the acting was just terrible, with almost every character trying to be overly hip and cool. Not to mention that the aliens weren't scary or menacing in the least.

Predator AVPR: I'm just assuming this because the three times I"ve tried to watch it, I was dead asleep before the half way mark of the movie

Phantasm: Watched them, but really can't recall them

Evil Dead: Good movie, but it doesnt compare to the II or army of darkness

Hellraiser: Any of the Hellraisers past part 3 were all pretty terrible

Child's Play: Never watched them

Final Destination 3: When you kill people off in a movie, you should at least care that they're dying.

*Some franchises not mentioned:
- Leprechaun
- Romero's Dead Series
- Zombi
- Amicus trilogy flicks
- Puppetmaster

It's interesting. Movies are sometimes like albums - the first one is the best. For instance, in regards to albums, I think the debut record of artists like The Cars, Boston, Alanis Morissette, The Knack, Bad Company and Foreigner were their best. In regards to this forum, the following films seemed to be miles ahead of their sequels.
Saw
Halloween
Hellraiser
Friday the 13th
The Hills Have Eyes
Wrong Turn
Silence of the Lambs
Jeepers Creepers
Hostel
The Exorcist
The Omen
Child's Play

Diary of the Dead was a mess. It took all the potential in its premise and crapped all over it. I have no urge to see Survival. Also I can't decided which is worse: Jason Takes Manhattan or Jason Goes to Hell. Child's Play 3 was terrible. Don Mancini even owns up to its complete suckage.

Can I comment on some that are not listed here?

1. Children of The Corn - I feel the first, 2nd and 3rd were great. After that, all went downhill. But 'Genesis' was extremely unwatchable for me.

2. Creepshow - Creepshow 3 was unwatchable for me. What a waste of time.

3. Return of the Living Dead - While 1 was awesome, 2 is just basically part 1 with different location and added humor, but the rest had gone downhill. I think I remember going wtf at Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave.

4. Child's Play - I really dislike Seed of Chucky.

5. Hellraiser - I could only watch the first one, all the rest are weak. But I swear 'Revelations' was totally unwatchable out of all.

6. Poltergeist - 3rd one is the weakest.

7. A Nightmare on Elm Street - Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, most definitely.

8. The Exorcist - The Beginning.

9. Subspecies - Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm is somewhat the weakest.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Well I would recommend breaking another rule and watch "Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist", if you haven't already. It's a little bit like "The Begining", and was actually the first version of the prequel made before the studio took Paul Schrader (the original director and cowriter) off the project and brought in NOES 4 director Renny Harlin in to do reshoots and amp up the blood and lower the psychological elements.

It's not perfect, and has a fair share of detractors of it's own but I definitely think it's one of the biggest unsung heroes of the horror genre. At least the last decade or so.

Exactly why do people hate Diary of the Dead so much? Most answers I have heard are really ambiguous. I actually thought it was one of the most brilliant zombie films and I am not even a big fan of that sub-genre. I especially liked all the political and moral messages. So, I was just wondering if someone could explain why they hated this film so much.

Friday The 13th - Jason Goes To Hell was the weakest entry for me.

Halloween - Rob Zombie's H2. Absolutely Hated that movie! If you don't count the remakes, then Resurrection.

A Nightmare On Elm Street - The Remake. If you don't count the remake, then Wes Craven's New Nightmare is the weakest for me.

Saw - I've seen all the Saw movies one time with the exception of the first movie which I've seen several times. I can't really remember which was whch so it's tough to say.

Scream - Tough, but I will say 3.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Texas Chainsaw 3D just for the total disregard of all logic.

Alien - Alien 3.

Predator - Predators

Phantasm - I love them all but if I had to choose a weakest entry I guess it would be 4.

Evil Dead - Haven't seen the remake yet. From the original trilogy, I love them all, but I probably watch Part 2 the least.

Hellraiser - All of them after Bloodline.

Child's Play - Seed Of Chucky

Final Destination - I've only seen the first 3.

Children of The Corn - Genesis

Creepshow - Creepshow 3

Return of the Living Dead - Everything after Part 3.

Poltergeist - 3rd one is the weakest.

The Exorcist - Heretic: The Exorcist II, one of the most boring films in history.

Subspecies - It's been too long but probably 4.

Living Dead - Survival Of The Dead was the weakest for me.

Ones I didn't see mentioned yet:

Leprechaun - Back 2 Tha Hood

Warlock - Warlock 3

Amityville - It's been a while but probably Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes

Jaws - Jaws 4: The Revenge

Wrong Turn - Wrong Turn 5 probably.

Personally, I agree with most of your list for the worst film in each series, except for one of the choices. Your Nightmare choice. Why exactly do you think that that is the worst? Personally, I loved that movie, it is one of the few, if not only, slasher movie that can actually scare. Additionally, I thought the idea was very unique and thus liked that a lot as well (especially how the people involved in the movie all played themselves). Additionally, the atmosphere and acting was really top-notch, in my opinion. I find it very surprising that this would be your least favorite film in that series. Plus, the remake was pretty terrible (I will not even go into why I hated it so much because I could write a book) and while the sequels were not atrocious (with, in my opinion the exception of two, which I thought was quite atrocious), they were not really that good either with the exception of three and, of course, New Nightmare. At least that is my opinion. So, anyway, why is New Nightmare your least favorite (I am just curious)?

The idea was interesting but I just didn't think it was done all that well. The interaction between Nancy and Robert and Wes just didn't seem real. They felt like actors pretending to know each other. The pacing was slow, bordering on boring and I found the kid really annoying. I didn't really find anything scary in it. There were just less positives for me compared to the other films in the series.

Then again I've always been in the minority when it comes to the Nightmare On Elm St. franchise. My favorite entry is Part 2: Freddy's Revenge. That movie is deeper and darker on soooo many different levels than any other in the franchise. Unfortunately only the director, a few members of the cast and myself seem to get it...lol.

I found the voiceover to be really poorly-written, turgid, and insipid. Instead of letting the audience come to its own conclusions about the world that the movie depicts, it spells it out for you - I don't like being treated like an idiot.

Are we worth saving? You tell me.

*GAG*

I haven't seen Diary Of The Dead yet but the general consensus seems to be that it was a disappointment.

I think you should still check it out if you can because I think it is good. At the very least it is entertaining. In my opinion at least.

I'll give it a chance for sure, I like most of Romero's films as is. I'm an oddball when it comes to the Dead series, but I actually like the original Dawn OTD the least of the ones I've seen thus far (NOTLD 68 and 90, Dawn 78 and 04, Day 85 and Land Of The Dead). It's not a terrible movie and I find it entertaining enough, but I find the overall mood to be rather light and comical compared to the other Dead films and for some reason it doesn't grab me like the other films in the series I've seen thus far do, and I also think it hasn't aged too well. I don't think it's a bad film at all (I'd probably rate it about a 7/10 or so), but I've never been a huge fan of it like so many others I know.

Controversal opinion, I know :o
