There wasnt much action, and it was kind of unrealistic of how there weren't any other survivors, and how the ones alive survived. Most of the movie is arguing, the whole Bub angle was pretty good until the doctor died, then the movie really had no point. I liked the movie, but it could of been a lot better.

For some reason that movie made me think, and any horror movie that makes me think, (and i understand it), is good. Plus Pinhead was in it so... thats why i liked it.

Well i guess if the zombies were slow, realisticly the world wouldnt really have much trouble getting rid of them. But i do like slow zombies better than fast ones. I would always like to pie a zombie. (Dawn of the Dead)

I'm suprised The Excorcist didn't get many votes. I always felt it was easily the "scariest" movie of all time.
I like a lot of the older movies, like The Omen and Rosemary's Baby. The classics like Dracula and Frankenstein are great. Where would movies like King Kong and Jaws go? Then you have the newer movies like Elm Street, Hellraiser, Pet Cem, Shining, Candyman, Reanimator, etc There are a ton to choose from.
I don't know you can possibly put Freddy vs Jason anywhere near these movies though.

thecritic
07-18-2004, 09:36 AM
If we are trying to stay with 'the classics' then Halloween is the best. I would have said Friday the 13th, but Jason doesn't even show up until the second, and doesn't get the mask until the third. But if we are talking recent movies, then I would have to say the both Ginger Snaps movies are the best.

I found myself really creeped out while watching Nosferatu, but that was mostly because of the make-up and music. I didn't get to finish it and I can't seem to find a copy to rent.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Original (way better than the remake)
Halloween

Candyman scared the hell out of me for some reason, but I don't think it was that great of a movie.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? I don't think it's really a horror movie, but it's pretty creepy none-the less.

The first time i saw Candyman, I was afraid of all the mirrors in my house for about a week. I was quite young. I Think that the Shining was a great movie, once again this one had me scared of my dad for about a week, it didn't help that his name is john. I was also young the first time i saw it. I think though the best one is probably the Exoricist, buts its hard to choose.

This girl told me that after she saw it, she had to pee really bad and the bathroom mirror was in front of her toilet... she said she was scared that even if you just said it in your head it counted, and she couldn't stop saying it in her head! She said before she got to saying it three times, she jumped off the toilet and tripped over her shorts trying to get out of the bathroom.

the Exorcist is, in my opinion, the best horror film ever made based merely on my belief that, even if you took out all elements of horror, or the devil, or whatever, it would still be a good movie. I think it is almost obscenely well-written with the characterization being on a par with any of the great dramas. But, if we are allowed to include horror hybrids, I would have to say my favorite is Nightmare Before Christmas because like my friend Amy says, "If you can't identify with Jack Skellington, who CAN you identify with?"

I don't like The Exorcist because I just don't find little girls swearing at people and puking on them very scary. Have to agree with Beetlejuice where that one's concerned. Maybe if I wasn't such an atheist it'd be more scary.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) Real people in a real fucked up situation that draws you in with not only the direction but one hell of a schizo soundtrack.
I don't care what that fuckwit Michael Bay says about his queer arse remake it just doesn't come anywhere near the original or even the second one for that matter.

The Crazies freaks me out as well because out of any horror I've seen it's the one most likely to happen. Especially in the times we occupy now.

But asking for the best horror ever is like asking what your favourite toy was as a child.

knife_fight
10-14-2004, 03:16 PM
To me, talking about the "best" horror film is different than talking about the "scariest." It includes scariness, certainly, but isn't limited to that one aspect. That's why I chose the Exorcist (including the re-released version with the deleted scenes).

Finding one movie and being able to seperate it from the rest and trying to comprehend why it out does all the others is an open question that will be seldom answered staright by a true horror buff with a broad taste.

Many movies have fully completed what they set out to do. The original Halloween, TCM, DOTD (Dawn I mean) and Suspiria are just a handful of movies that are (in a word) perfect. "What would you prefare?" would be an easier question but still hard.

Top ten best ever horor movies is very hard not the order they go in just deceiding the ten-1 is crazy talk for me.
