I reckon as long as this silly rumour that AVP will be a family film (come on, it's ridiculous, the previous films all made major bank and not a PG among them) proves untrue, then it should at least be a fun way to kill two hours. But I hardly reckon there's a x vs. x 'fad' happening. I mean, we've had FVSJ, with a possible sequel and AVP on the way and.........well, that's it. Three movies, one's a sequel to another, is hardly an epidemic. In fact, I hope it crosses over into other genres than horror. Damned if I can think of a good example, but it could work.

I'd prefer something along the lines of...

Cheech and Chong vs. Jay and Silent Bob

...That'd be interesting.

Well, outside of horror, there was a pretty recurrent rumor of a Batman VS Superman movie comming out this year. See below link about it.

I can't tell you it'll be great or bad, I just brought this up as a possible Something VS Something movie along the line. Anyway, if it truly was to come out this year, I guess it would have been a lot more coverage for it, so I don't really believe it'll be out soon.
