Seven dead at kite-flying festival

SEVEN people were killed and more than 100 injured in Pakistan during the annual kite flying festival marking the arrival of spring, officials said today.

An 18-month-old girl's throat was cut by a stray kite string while she was travelling with her parents on a motorbike, witnesses said, adding that she died on the spot.

Three people were electrocuted when metal wires they were using to fly or catch stray kites fell on live electric lines, and two people fell from roofs, hospital officials said.

A 12-year-old boy died while trying to catch a stray kite when he was hit by a car on a main road, police said.

More than 100 people had been reported injured since last night in various kite-related accidents, medical workers said.

I feel a Million Mom March coming on against Kite flying:rolleyes:

These people should get the Darwin award for stupidity.

Now there is going to be a 5 day waiting period to purchase kites, there will also be extensive background checks.

The goverment has decided that all US subjects must take a 40 hour minimum safety class on the proper handling of kites.

We must do it for the children:rolleyes:

well i am impressed with bloodrayne.. for having information about my country...hahaha... yea i know this kite flying thing is messed up,,, i mean like the latest figures are 300 injured .. man .. see the thing in this kite flying festival is that... around 8-10,000 kites are in the sky, you cant see the sky except for the kites.. now the wire or string being used get so much tension on it.. that ppl usually get the necks cut.. also see there is a competition going on between the kite flyers, to see who can take it further out in the sky and also who can cut the other persons kite.. so because of that when a kite gets cut, the children run trying to get it back.. they dont see where they running, and usually get run over by a car.. its sad.. this happens in lahore, a city in pakistan..thank god i am in karachi ...

That reminds me of the casino scene in Wishmaster 2, only with kites...

Oh, and let's not forget Extreme Sports: Watergun Edition.
