Hell, yeah . . . a vastly underrated movie, IMO. I figured I'd get flamed for listing that one, matter of fact.

Guess I should just wait. It could still happen. ;)

5)Trilogy of Terror (Karen Black at the end-"Come in mother" as she repeatedly stabs the floor with a butcher knife!!!!)
That story in that movie scared the hell out of me for many nights! so that can be in my list.

The Ring (not too scary tho)
The Thirteenth Ghost
Grizzly (when I saw this at a young age, we were at a drive-in surrounded by woods and sitting out the back window of an old station wagon during a late night showing)
Jaws
Trilogy of Terror (especially the story with the tribal doll)

these aren't really in any order, and they aren't, by far, the only ones I consider my favorites!

"The Town that Dread Sundown" is the bane of my existence. I can relate to roguesblight because I saw this film at a drive-in in Missouri when I was a little kid. I was scared so bad we had to leave and go home. To this day I don't understand what my parents were thinking by taking us to see this horrible thing.
I still haven't tried to watch it again.

Other top scarey movies:

>Jaws
>The Exorcist
>The Ring (say what you will, I didn't sleep at night for 3 days...kept seeing that creepy-ass girl coming down my hallway as soon as the lights went out)
>Deliverance
>The Hills Have Eyes
>the chainsaw scene from Scarface....one of the nastiest things I've ever seen

Is that the one that's based on a true event, about a serial killer, killing in a town back in say the early 60's, that they never caught? if not give me a quick descrip so I can place it, I just know I saw it but can't place it if that's not it.

oh, I remember one that scare the p*ss out of me! The Boogens-or it may have been The Boogins--about these creatures that have like long tenticals with claws on the ends, and they lived underground and came up in your basement, crawlspace, etc......
and another movie that was freaky and had the same actress from boogins was Silent Scream! both came out around the same year, and it was like late 70s or early 80s! Pretty scary at the time!

I remember very little about "The Town that Dread Sundown." I'm serious about this movie, I was crying/screaming out loud as my dad drove us away from the drive-in movie. I was maybe 5 yrs old. Apparently, we'd go just about every Saturday night and it didn't matter what we saw, it was just something to do that was cheap.
Anyhows, yeah...I think its based on a true story from like the early 50's or something. All I remember is the killer wore a dusty-grey suit and like a white pillowcase on his head. At one point he attacked this kid and his girlfriend as they drove away from a high school dance or something. He beat the boy nearly to death with his bare hands then roped the girl to a tree and stabbed her to death with a knife that was tied to a trombone. It sounds stupid now but it was really twisted and that was the last thing I remember seeing before I totally lost it.

judging by what you both described it sounds like the one i remember. My mom rented that when I was younger and VCRs were the new in thing. It was a pretty creepy movie. Especially back then and knowing that they never caught the guy.

May is a horror film (I'm not sure why everyone is so quick to not label it horror) in which an oddball girl is looking for love and friendship. However, when she is unsuccessful at doing this the old fashioned way, she sets out to MAKE a friend. It's one of the best horror flicks I've seen in a while. Quite a breath of fresh air.

would that be rentable? I haven't seen it either, and a comment like that coming from someone who's seen a lot of horror fliks, I think that means I wouldn't mind seeing it either.

Yeah, it's rentable. Blockbuster should have it. It takes a while for the movie to get going and the horror to build up. That's not a bad thing though, it gives it an old school vibe.

roguesblight
10-21-2003, 05:36 PM
well i'll make sure i stick with it then. and the old school feel is fine, as long as i know the movie is worth it in the long run.

The exorcist-saw this when I was a child-not a good idea
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Nightmare on Elm Street

Jaws-I have to add-Mom took me to see this when I was 8 years old at the theater, she kept covering my eyes during the bloody parts. She didnt do a very good job, curiousity kept moving her hand in the way. I am probably the only person who lived in San Diego that NEVER went in the ocean. After that movie I wouldnt say that I was traumatized or anything but Mom bought me a lot of books about sharks and shark attacks. I gained a lot of knowledge about the animal, so much that I used to be scared that they were under my bed. Believe that, scared of SHARKS under my bed. I still will not go into the ocean ever. Probably the only thing in life that really terrifies me.

I DO LIKE THE FIRST A LITTLE AND ONLY A LITTLE IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE. GOOD-YES, FUCKING GREAT-NO.

OVERALL I PRETTY MUCH JUST HATE THE CHARACTER ALL TOGETHER HE'S JUST LAME IF YOU ASK ME. WHY DO YOU THINK JASON AND MICHAEL DON'T TALK CAUSE IF THEY DID THEY'D BE LAME TO NOW I KNOW THAT IF HE WAS NOT TO TALK IN THE MOVIE THAN IT PROBABLY BE EVEN STUPIDER THAN IT ALREADY IS BUT THE POINT IS I THINK HE'S JUST TO DAMN LAME HE DOES'NT SCARE ME AT ALL. SOME HORROR MOVIE I WATCH I START LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER SOMETIMES CAUSE I MIGHT BE ALONE AND GET A LITTLE SPOOKED BUT WHENEVER I'VE BEEN FORCED TO ENDURE THE PAIN OF WATCHING HELLRAISER I JUST LAUGH THE WHOLE TIME CAUSE I FIND IT HILARIOUS.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE STARTED EVERYTHING OFF AND IF IT WAS'NT FOR JASON AND THE FRIDAY THE 13TH SERIES THE GENRE MIGHT NOT HAVE LASTED THROUGH THE 80'S, AND HALLOWEEN IS PROBABLY THE BEST HORROR MOVIE EVER MADE. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD PROBABLY THE MOST ORIGINAL HORROR MOVIE EVER MADE AND FOR THE TIME IT WAS MADE IT WAS MOST LIKELY PRETTY DAMN SCARY, I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT OTHER HORROR MOVIES LIKE THE EXORCIST, EVIL DEAD,NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (PART ONE) BUT WHAT THE HELL AS HELLRAISER DONE BESIDES MAKE ONE OF THE LAMEST CHARACTERS I'VE EVER SEEN AND MAKE A SUB PAR FRANCISE THAT I DON'T BLAME CLIVE BARKER FOR CAUSE THE DEATH SCENES ARE GREAT AND DEFINATELY ORIGINAL IF NOTHING ELSE AND THE DIRECTING WAS DONE PERFECTLY OTHER THAN THAT IT'S JUST (SAID IT A MILLION TIMES AND I'LL SAY IT ANOTHER MILLION IF I HAVE TO)LAME.

AUSTIN316426808
11-09-2003, 03:09 AM
AND REFERING BACK TO THE THING I WAS SAYING ABOUT PINHEAD SOUNDING LAME AN EXAMPLE OF A ACTUAL HORROR FILM SLASHER WHO TALKS AND MAKES THE SERIES WHAT IT IS-FREDDY KRUEGER. FREDDY KRUEGER IS THE NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET SERIES ALL THOSE SUB PAR ACTOR/ACTRESSES THEY GOT TO RUN AROUND,SCREAM AND GET SLAUGHTERED DID'NT DO ANYTHING BUT THAT. BUT AS FOR PINHEAD HE FUCKS THE WHOLE SERIES UP WITH THAT LAME ASS SHIT HE SAYS.
AND IT'S NOT JUST PINHEAD IT'S SOME OF THE STUFF THEY USE TO SET UP THE MOVIE LIKE THAT FUCKING BOX THAT'S ABSOLUTELY RETARDED.

Hellraiser was a fucking visual milestone. Nothing was being made like that at the time. There is still nothing that really rivals its style. It was so different from everything else coming out and IS one of the reasons of the 80's horror re-vamp. You can have your opinion about it, but you cannot deny its presence as a respected and powerful genre film.

I am with avenger on this.. Hellraiser is an original. During the time slasher flicks were being turned out by the dozens "hellraiser" came along and broke grounds. If anyone has watched the series of flicks you will see there is a story. Pinhead and all the other cenobites were made for a purpose.. Pinhead is a great character .. fucking awesome and original til this day nothing has been made that IMO would surpass him.

yah the new tcm is pretty good, the only thing i dont like is that it took away from the idea of how sick the cannibalistic family actually was....and that whole sob story of leatherface just wanting to be loved? blah theres no room for teenage angst in horror movies!

about pinhead, i dono, the movies themselves are good, but I just dont like Pinhead. He just doesnt seem threatening to me. And he talks. Freddy is the only killer that can talk dammit. I dont know, I respect the movies and all and its fans, I just dont find him threatening at all and kinda lame.

Evil dead 1+2 (especially 1, first horror movie I ever remembver seeing)
Freddy Vs. Jason
The Ring
TCM
the first couple Halloween movies, the first few Elm Streets, adn the first few Friday the 13ths. In my experience, a francise has lost most of it's luster by the fourth intallment

IMO a true horror fan would not dislike Pinhead or atleast the first movie.. people that truely know horror would know it is a great film . fucking fresh and is a huge milestone for horror. it can not be compared to the thousands of slasher flicks made in the 80`s because it is original and nothing has been made like it. NOTHING!!! so this is what I am saying to all the people that keep saying Pinhead is lame, which sounds dumb, you need to watch more horror..

Oh I haven't read much into what was happening but I gues I will explain why Pinhead appeals to me. I think it was the fact he was so jaded in his actions and he killed for the sake of pleasure and pain to the individual and how he just appears is most beautiful. I been fond of Pinhead since I was a kid.

But Hellraiser never scared me. I always wanted to marry him. Dang I was a sick kid lol...:D

Finally, a like soul! I have always thought pinhead was pretty intriguing! I kinda always rooted for him. As demons go, i'd say he was pretty hypnotizing! All you lamos out there that think he's lame, well, let's just say I agree with ritualistic, you need to watch more horror because you obviously can't tell the difference between great and everyday! pinhead is a great character and Freddy, Jason, and the rest are just everyday kinda slashers. Most of those characters could be replaced with one of the others. But not pinhead!!!!

I love mostly 80's horror flicks. For me most of today horror movies can't stand upto most of the 80's stuff. For instance House of 1,000 corpses. I like Rob Zombie but that movie was just horrible. Was almost like a different version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I bought it on DVD and was very disappointed. Well just my $.02 though.

I do agree about the 80`s movies being better than 90`s BUT 70`s beat the hell out of 80`s flick...

LOL

I never realized that until I read your post.

That major difference with that though is the intense rage that zombie have. Thats what really makes this movie so scary. I would sh*t myself if there was one running after me.

With Dawn of Dead the zombies move so slow not really that terrorizing. But they are in packs either way still deadly.

By the way what does IMO mean

eg. IMO this is true to an extent

Ok, you want the real deal. Everyone was told that some kid shot himself and his ghost haunts the apartment where they filmed Three Men and a Baby, right? Well, guess what. Three Men and a Baby was shot on a sound stage. There is no apartment. The "ghost" is nothing more than a cardboard cut-out of Ted Danson, and can be seen more clearly in a later scene.

There's a Maxim movie magazine that shuts down a lot of rumors like these that's fun to read.

WELL IT WAS HELLRAISER 2 ACTUALLY AND TO BE TECHNICAL BARKER WROTE THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME THE BOOK TITLE IS "A HELLBOUND HEART" I THINK ALL THE BIO-MECHANICAL, HELL ON EARTH, PAIN IS THE CLOSEST THING TO PLEASURE IS BOTH DISTURBING AND ORIGINAL. ALSO THE REASON HALLOWEEN DIDNT MAKE IT THAT HIGH ON THE LIST IS BECAUSE OF A LITTLE MOVIE BOB "A CHRISTMAS STORY" CLARK DID CALLED "BLACK CHRISTMAS" SAME CONCEPT BUT IT'S CHRISTMAS NOT HALLOWEEN ALSO CLARK WORKED ON POST PRODUCTION WITH CARPENDER FOR HALLOWEEN BUT DROPPED OUT SHORTLY BEFORE FILMING, STILL AN A+ FILM NONE THE LESS.

HALLOWEEN IS CARPENTER'S (NOT CARPENTDER)MOVIE AND IT'S BETTER THAN BLACK CHRISTMAS AND WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT IT RELATIVELY BEING THE SAME I'M NOT REALLY GOING FOR THAT IT'S TWO DIFFERENT MOVIES AND HALLOWEEN IS SO MUCH BETTER IT IS'NT EVEN FUNNY.

AND BESIDES HELLRAISER JUST IS'NT BETTER THAN HALLOWEEN NO MATTER WHAT WAY YOU LOOK AT IT THAT'S THE POINT I WAS MAKING BUT ONCE AGAIN IT'S YOUR LIST AND THAT'S WHAT YOU LIKE IT'S YOUR OPINION AND YOU'RE ENTITLED TO IT.

FIRST OFF THEY ARE 2 HOLIDAY SLASHER FLICKS THATS MAKES THEM PRETTY SIMILAR ALREADY? SECONDLY CARPENTER OPENLY ADMITS THE INFLUENCE TO CLARK! FINALLY WITHOUT NAMING A DIRECT SEQUAL NAME A MOVIE THAT IS MORE SIMILAR TO HALLOWEEN THAN BLACK CHRISTMAS? I DO THINK HALLOWEEN IS A BETTER MOVIE THAN BLACK CHRISTMAS AND I LOVE CARPENTER FILMS THERE ARE ABOUT 10 IN MY COLLECTION BUT HE DID BITE OFF CLARK A BIT.

Ok I'll bite, here are my top 5 horrorish type movies.

5: Idle Hands,
(not really scary or gory but sorta horror comedy)

4: Cujo,
(Here puppy, come on who wouldn't want to pet the Cujo?)

3:Christine,
(cool because, hell it is about a killer 58 Plymouth Fury. Not many good horror car films out there, and if you say "Car" you are a sad pathetic worm.)

2: From Dusk till Dawn,
(the best vampire movie IMO)

1: Nightmare on Elmstreet,
(OK if I have to be killed I want Freddy to do it that man is too insainly funny.)

Now being that I am a werewolf enthusist I will run down my top 5 Hollywood horrorwolves.

5: Wolf,
(not really scary but very wolfish attitude by Jack Nicholson)

4: Ginger Snaps,
(a very good low budget Canadian werewolf flick)

3: Dog Soldiers,
(an extremly good low budget werewolf flick from the UK. The best is that it is old school.)

2: Bad Moon,
(allot of my fellow werewolf enthusist don't like this movie but I do.)

1: An American Werewolf in London,
(what can I say a classic, not to mention this is the film that got me addicted to lycanthropes as a young cub of five.)

AUSTIN316426808

Meh...I graded it on overall werewolfieness. While I agree "Dog Soldiers" is a hell of allot better in terms of horror, "Bad Moon" IMO is a better werewolf flick.

Reasons.

1: The werewolf in "Bad Moon" is one killer costume. IMO it is the best looking werewolf on film I have seen so far. (not that the were's in Dog Soldiers weren't awesome as well.)

2: You get to see that awesome costume allot in "Bad Moon". If it is one thing I hate is not getting enough werewolf (or other creature) in the movie. I mean come on they are the star right?!

3: I enjoyed the story better than "Dog Soldiers". The book "Thor" by Wayne Smith, which "Bad Moon" is based on is also a great story.

4: The movie "Bad Moon" also dispelled allot of the werewolf myths such as, silver bullets are needed to kill a werewolf, only a full moon will induce a transformation, etc. etc. I like movies that do this to the legends. Which is why I enjoyed "Teen Wolf" as well, but I decided to leave that off this list because it just isn't horror.
