Universal Pictures Picks Up Hellboy 2
Source: Variety
August 4, 2006

Universal Pictures will fully finance and distribute Hellboy 2, the Guillermo del Toro-directed sequel to the 2004 comic book adaptation, reports Variety.

The studio picks up a project orphaned by Revolution Studios, which made the original and distributed through its deal at Columbia Pictures. With Revolution out of business, the sequel became available and Universal slotted it for summer 2008.

In a script by del Toro, Ron Perlman returns as Hellboy, the humanoid creature born in the flames of hell who was deposited on Earth's doorstep as an infant and battles otherworldly evil for a covert government agency. Selma Blair returns as the horned hero's pyrokinetic love interest.

Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson, Lloyd Levin and Roth will produce the film, Mike Mignola co-produces and Chris Kenney is executive producer. Production starts in April in Budapest and London.

Whoop-de-do. Not really looking forward to any more superhero movies. Enough is enough.

I waited for Hellboy to come out on video because of all the bad reviews and all the friends that said it sucked balls.
When I finally saw it, I really enjoyed it.
I will go see this one.

I think the only reason I wouldn't ,is if Ron Pearlman wasn't reprising his role.

i'm not a big fan of hellboy ..

another blue haze cgi film ... an uninteresting bad guy (although i did like the clockwork guy) - an uninteresting cast in general with the exception of John Hurt ..

and mostly - unlike everyone else here - i never liked Ron Perlman as an actor.

i find him lifeless and uncharismatic - in ever single film he's ever been in.

Directors seem to like him though - and will reuse him - as in this case (he was also in Chronos - and i thought he stood out like a sore thumb in that film)

hubba hubba - linda hamilton - hooowlllll

(i, by the way, loved the hellboy comics and generally liked the film - just thought it was hamstrung by a limited budget and some awkward formulaic storytelling - but i was hoping they would give it another shot)
